I have no record. However... been caught stealin' once, when I was five.
Yes.
I spent about an hour in 'custody', and plead guilty to a misdemeanor when I was 19. My 'sentence' was a $25 fine. I actually got a check from the county, since my bail was $50.
Most former misdemeanors are now felonies, ever since Republicans lengthened sentences in the 80s-90s. The distinction between misdemeanor and felony has no meaning now.
Those years in the 90s after Clinton was president were like the Twilight Zone. His men probably red-flagged you as a red stater.

So you just walked right... through the door?
My girl, she's one too. She'll go and get her a skirt, Stick it under her shirt. She grabbed a razor for me, and she did it just like that. When she wants something she don't want to pay for it.

Well, almost and it's a tale. (hell, no one has to read it)
Backstory, when I first came to Oakland I shopped for food at a local foodie store (still do) because it was better than supermarket. At the time, their facility was so small they did not have space for a lot of stuff people buy at supermarkets that isn't really "food" (cat supplies, toilet paper, shampoo, etc) so I'd swing by the Safeway for those items. Every week. So one day I'm looking for my brand of shampoo, moved some bottles, not there. I pay for my other stuff, start to leave, and a man shoved me back into the store and said he "knew" I had stolen items in my tote bag and I had to go to the back of the store, behind a door, and hand him my bag. I'm so honest my first thought was that this was someone I knew playing a practical joke. But I didn't know him and he wasn't joking. I will point out he was in plain clothes and showed no ID or badge. There was another man with him holding a Safeway bag who never said a word. My next thought was that it was a scam, that he'd run off with my wallet. So I said I'm not going behind any door with you, I'm staying right here in the produce department in a public area in site of the door. His exact reply was "If she wants to play tough, fuck her." He then called to a passing employee to get the manager, they had caught a thief. The manager comes out. I'm mad enough to spit nails but reminded myself to stay calm & polite and asked him "Sir, are you the manager?" He said he was. I said "Sir, I am a regular customer, many of your clerks know me by sight, this man showed no badge, physically accosted me, I have never stolen anything." He said they are store security, my first confirmation that's what they were. I then asked him if it were usual for his employees to say "fuck her" to customers. He said they are security, not Safeway employees. I asked if it were usual for security to say "fuck her" to customers. He said it was not his responsibility and left. So there we were. I did not think these people had authority to detain me and started to leave. The man grabbed me, threw me against the wall and handcuffed me, saying since I would not cooperate I'd have to wait for the police. Cop shows up, along with another man who said he was store's customer service manager. Guard tells cops I looked at a bottle of Clairol shampoo and then put it in my bag. I said it was actually Neutrogena and I looked to see if they had the right kind, they didn't, so I didn't get any. No one tried to explain why I'd pay for a bag full of stuff but steal one bottle of shampoo. The cop took my tote bag, looked through it, found nothing but my personal belongings. I was pretty scared, the cop at least acted professional (white, female, over 35 so I wasn't a "target") but the security guard seemed so determined to bust me I was honestly afraid he'd plant something in my bag. The cop said they had to let me go. The guard reluctantly uncuffed me. I demanded an apology. The customer service manager started to apologize but the guard broke in saying he KNEW I stole but had probably hidden the shampoo in my clothing. I asked if they were going to strip search me in the produce department. The cust serv mgr said they are not allowed to, the guard said if they did he KNEW they'd find stolen items. I'd really had enough by then so I told him if he tried I'd kick his teeth in. He then said "she's got an attitude". No kidding! I was accosted, physically shoved, publicly insulted, handcuffed, searched and he still said I was guilty, damn right I've got an attitude! (A friend of mine later said he probably figured women are supposed to cry, not get mad.)
Well... as soon as I got home I called regional office and asked for regional manager. He'd gone home but I got regional customer service manager, told her the whole story. I asked her if she would go behind a door with a strange man and hand over her purse, she said no way. She said the regional manager would call me next day. He didn't call. I wrote a letter saying if they'd responded next day I'd consider an apology and token compensation sufficient but by not responding they were endorsing what was done to me. He didn't answer. My then brother in law is a laywer. An asshole, as it turns out, but on this occasion he wrote, on his letterhead. They didn't know he was family, figured I'd hired a lawyer. End result, I got settlements from Safeway and from the security company. They also told me the second man was just a friend of the guard's, and that they are not supposed to involve third parties unless their safety is at stake. Since the guard was twice my size, he could hardly argue that. He did get canned. End of story, except I never went back to that store.
