Yeah, it sucks. Sitting in a jail full of half wits is an eye opener. WTF am I doing here???

Not sure. I suppose so.

Spent a night in jail, though. Contempt of Court.

I have no record. However... been caught stealin' once, when I was five.

Never been arrested or ticketed. I did have a cop stop while I was pulled over on the side of the freeway having sex in a VW Bug once though. After hastily throwing my shirt over my junk, he told us to drive 5 miles south and go to a park that they never patrol. I was thankful.

Yes.

I spent about an hour in 'custody', and plead guilty to a misdemeanor when I was 19. My 'sentence' was a $25 fine. I actually got a check from the county, since my bail was $50.

yeah but never for anything good

all that shit i got away with

Yes, my arresting officer was Leslie Kipper
But the charges were dropped.
'twas just a very minor bit of unintended vandalism back in high school.

I was for awhile as a child, but then I had a growth spurt.

Most former misdemeanors are now felonies, ever since Republicans lengthened sentences in the 80s-90s. The distinction between misdemeanor and felony has no meaning now.

I know. I had to fight this bogus 'conviction' in the '90s after Clinton was President and right before I got my first real job at Gallo. I was "red-flagged" before it was known. Still got the job, though.

Those years in the 90s after Clinton was president were like the Twilight Zone. His men probably red-flagged you as a red stater.

I was booked and processed by a female deputy who was in one of my classes. Yes, she did have to pat my junk. We never brought it up again...

Tell me you broke out of jail...my respect for you grows...go ahead, tell us a whopper, it will make you friends...I'm starting to think you're cool...

I got busted for being drunk in Corvallis. I was 20 and it was the first time I had ever been drunk..... very unfortunate.

Got a drunk in public a few days after my 21st birthday. Didn't get charged with anything which made it feel like such a massive waste of time and money for all involved.

My girl, she's one too. She'll go and get her a skirt, Stick it under her shirt. She grabbed a razor for me, and she did it just like that. When she wants something she don't want to pay for it.

We sat around the pile. We sat and laughed. We sat and laughed and waved it into the air! And we did it just like that. When we want something, we don't want to pay for it.

Nah been close a couple times tho. If I didn't know my rights one time I had a run-in, I woulda been a felon :sigh:

It's sad to see so many people getting arrested because they don't know their rights.

When i was under 18, luckily since i was a juvenile i was able to get my record expunged.

Well, almost and it's a tale. (hell, no one has to read it)
Backstory, when I first came to Oakland I shopped for food at a local foodie store (still do) because it was better than supermarket. At the time, their facility was so small they did not have space for a lot of stuff people buy at supermarkets that isn't really "food" (cat supplies, toilet paper, shampoo, etc) so I'd swing by the Safeway for those items. Every week. So one day I'm looking for my brand of shampoo, moved some bottles, not there. I pay for my other stuff, start to leave, and a man shoved me back into the store and said he "knew" I had stolen items in my tote bag and I had to go to the back of the store, behind a door, and hand him my bag. I'm so honest my first thought was that this was someone I knew playing a practical joke. But I didn't know him and he wasn't joking. I will point out he was in plain clothes and showed no ID or badge. There was another man with him holding a Safeway bag who never said a word. My next thought was that it was a scam, that he'd run off with my wallet. So I said I'm not going behind any door with you, I'm staying right here in the produce department in a public area in sight of the door. His exact reply was "If she wants to play tough, fuck her." He then called to a passing employee to get the manager, they had caught a thief. The manager comes out. I'm mad enough to spit nails but reminded myself to stay calm & polite and asked him "Sir, are you the manager?" He said he was. I said "Sir, I am a regular customer, many of your clerks know me by sight, this man showed no badge, physically accosted me, I have never stolen anything." He said they are store security, my first confirmation that's what they were. I then asked him if it were usual for his employees to say "fuck her" to customers. He said they are security, not Safeway employees. I asked if it were usual for security to say "fuck her" to customers. He said it was not his responsibility and left. So there we were. I did not think these people had authority to detain me and started to leave. The man grabbed me, threw me against the wall and handcuffed me, saying since I would not cooperate I'd have to wait for the police. Cop shows up, along with another man who said he was store's customer service manager. Guard tells cops I looked at a bottle of Clairol shampoo and then put it in my bag. I said it was actually Neutrogena and I looked to see if they had the right kind, they didn't, so I didn't get any. No one tried to explain why I'd pay for a bag full of stuff but steal one bottle of shampoo. The cop took my tote bag, looked through it, found nothing but my personal belongings. I was pretty scared, the cop at least acted professional (white, female, over 35 so I wasn't a "target") but the security guard seemed so determined to bust me I was honestly afraid he'd plant something in my bag. The cop said they had to let me go. The guard reluctantly uncuffed me. I demanded an apology. The customer service manager started to apologize but the guard broke in saying he KNEW I stole but had probably hidden the shampoo in my clothing. I asked if they were going to strip search me in the produce department. The cust serv mgr said they are not allowed to, the guard said if they did he KNEW they'd find stolen items. I'd really had enough by then so I told him if he tried I'd kick his teeth in. He then said "she's got an attitude". No kidding! I was accosted, physically shoved, publicly insulted, handcuffed, searched and he still said I was guilty, damn right I've got an attitude! (A friend of mine later said he probably figured women are supposed to cry, not get mad.)

Well... as soon as I got home I called regional office and asked for regional manager. He'd gone home but I got regional customer service manager, told her the whole story. I asked her if she would go behind a door with a strange man and hand over her purse, she said no way. She said the regional manager would call me next day. He didn't call. I wrote a letter saying if they'd responded next day I'd consider an apology and token compensation sufficient but by not responding they were endorsing what was done to me. He didn't answer. My then brother in law is a laywer. An asshole, as it turns out, but on this occasion he wrote, on his letterhead. They didn't know he was family, figured I'd hired a lawyer. End result, I got settlements from Safeway and from the security company. They also told me the second man was just a friend of the guard's, and that they are not supposed to involve third parties unless their safety is at stake. Since the guard was twice my size, he could hardly argue that. He did get canned. End of story, except I never went back to that store.

About 8 years ago I got beat up by some cops in downtown Portland on fat Tuesday for drinking a beer in public when I got kicked out of the bar for closing when I just paid $5 for my bud light. The cop took it out of my hand, poured it out and I said "party foul". He then get right in my face (sort of as he was at least 6 inches shorter than me), and told me I have 2 seconds to get out of his face. When I said ok sorry and tured around to walk away, it was on. I was slammed to ground and detained, other officers came to assist him and in a matter of seconds I had 5 cops holding me down. All I could do was yell "help, help, I am not resisting". It was only stopped when a large crowd gathered to watch and someone pulled out a video camera (days before a camera was on every phone), the camera guy was yelling "they are Rodney Kinging this fool!" That seemed to make the back off. After that I was thrown back in the cop car and cuffed very tightly, I thought my figers were broke. Turns out the cops are good at hurting people in subtle manners, I had a bruise on my back from his knee and 5 jammed, twisted and/or bruised fingers, including both of my thumbs and sever cuff burn. The cop, who instigated it all, joined me in the cop car to say "how the fuck do you like me now". I replied that I liked his dirty bitch mom much better. From there I was put in a paddy wagon and sent to the drunk tank. Never charged with anything, no recordings to identify the cop so I could complain. I was told that his name would be on the report, but when I was released and asked for the report I was laughed at and told theres no reports for the drunk tank and the only officer on record was the guy who brought me in the paddy wagon. Worst part about going to a drunk tank is you literally have no rights, if your arrested you get a phone call, if your going to the drunk tank you dont get shit, they just say "shut the fuck up your to drunk to know what you want." At the detention center I blew a 0.086 by the way.

Couple funny side stories related to this. While being frisked they missed my cell phone in a side pocket. In the back of the cop car I slipped my cuffs and made a call to my buddy for help. I couldn't get the phone to my ear so I just waited till I thought he would answer and and started yelling "help, help, Im going to jail, I just got beat up, fucking help me" Another cop saw this and opened the door and demanded my cell phone. I said fuck off and he started to wrestle me for it, we were both swearing at each other and my friends answer machine caught it all. For weeks we replayed the message and laughed.

Second side story was my new friend I met in the paddy wagon. William, he was drunk as a skunk but was obviously ruffed up a bit also. Me and him started hating on the system together and decided we were going to sue everyone. In the drunk tank he wouldn't leave me alone, and since I was trying to keep my cool for 4 hours so I could leave I was trying to ignore him. After I was released a few weeks later at work I was on the elevator and low and behold, mutha fuckin William gets on with me.

Last side story was in the drunk tank. Some dude looked well kept, dressed nice and not like most of the others there so I made friends with him and sat next to him with my cup of soup. He looked at me asked if this was my first time in the tank, when I said yes he grabbed my soup and everyone else's on the table and started throwing them at the observation room window yelling "fuck you cops". 3 large black men then entered the tank and drug him out kicking and screaming the whole way. For the next 3 hours all I could hear was him yelling bloody murder and slamming whatever he could against walls in the solitary room. To this day I wonder if all that would have went down if it wasn't my first time in the tank.

To more directly answer the question, I've never been arrested. Unless you count misdermeanor possesion, MIP and MIPtobacco. Yes MIP tobacco, thats a whole other fucking crazy story,

Good story Crandc, I hate power trippin assholes more than anything. I actually read that many stores have actually quit having loss prevention because of issues like this. They find that just accepting the loss is less expensive than paying lawsuits for people wrongfully being accoused and in many cases harmed.

So where did you hide the shampoo?
