OT Hawks fielding trade offers for Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver

There's no way imo that Atlanta would deal millsap for two non lottery picks, even it meant unloading bazemore. At least that's what I think, and I don't know shit.
I don't think so, but maybe. That scenario was based on someone in this forum saying they would.

I wouldn't give them anything more tbh.

But Millsap is worth next to nothing for them. They are not winning anything this season, not even close, and Millsap is free to go afterwards. His value is low. Basically it only makes sense for teams who are ready to compete NOW - maybe Boston think they can if they land Millsap, but it ends here. Cleveland have no need or cap space (James and Love at 3 and 4 where Millsap plays), Spurs have no need (Leonard and Aldridge), Warriors have no need (Durant and Green) and Clippers have no cap space or even assets to trade (having Millsap at small forward would improve them though).

I think the Raptors are the best fit for him:
-They need to win NOW and they need a good 4.
-The need to show Lowry they can handle their shit before he's a free agent.
-They have interesting guys to give up. They can give one of Ross/Powell/Caroll + picks.
-Millsap would probably want to go there and re-sign there.

I think they're gonna trade for Cousins to be honest.
They'll give up Valancuinas, Ross, and theirs and LAC's 2017 picks for Cousins.

They may still have the assets for Millsap too, but I think that they'd rather go for someone like Korver, who would be great next to Derozen, Lowry, and Cousins, and would replace Ross.

If they can't get Cousins, I could easily see them going for Millsap. Problem is, one of Ross/Powell/Carroll doesn't match salaries. I could see Sullinger, Ross, filler and a couple 1sts for Millsap and Sefelosha though.

I don't know, this post is kind of all over the place.

Yeah Toronto seems like an ideal landing spot. Hell, maybe we can get in on the action. I know he's a FA but with the new CBA, re-signing your own becomes a lot easier considering how much more a team can offer their own guys. It's actually why I think Sacramento will hold onto Cousins.

Yea, i thought about it too.
It's a good deal for SAC and Toronto will be better on paper, BUT...Lowry and Cousins on the same team? seems like a complete mine field to me.

I don't see Masai dipping his feet in that pool of blood.

You gotta take some risks, especially when you're in Toronto's position--well behind Cleveland in the conference. Right now, I doubt anyone would give them much of a chance in a seven-game series against Cleveland. Cousins always has blow-up potential, but when you're way behind, you have to embrace some high-risk/high-reward tactics. Cousins with his head right would make Toronto a lot more dangerous. And if it goes south--well, you weren't winning a title anyway before you traded for him.

I wanted Millsap until I saw that he was a free agent this summer, and with the current market it's a horrible idea to trade for a 31 year old power forward. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

No thanks.

And Korver has been horrible lately.
The ONLY way a mediocre cap-stapped team is going to get a Milsap quality player, is to get him when he's expiring (and a bit long in the tooth). Him being expiring is an opportunity, not something we should ignore without investigating the situation more closely.

That being said, yes, there are risks to getting an expiring contract. Hence, my hmph comment above.

I think the key to getting, and keeping Millsap, is the much talked about Crabbe for Noel swap.

Yep, Millap is oldish and will be looking for a big payday, but PHI has enough cap space to totally absorb Crabbe's contact (even with the trade kicker). and that would clear $14.1 in salary off our books, which would help put us in a position to re-sign Millsap next summer.

Of course, it would also require additional moves, but we'd also need to send out at least $17 million in salary to match Millsap. So, assuming Millsap opts out, that would give us $31 million to work with to resign him and Plumlee (although I think Plumlee may be one of the pieces ATL would want in any trade for Millsap).

I'd even be willing to take on Korver, as a short term replacement for Crabbe, until Neil can figure out something more permanent next summer. Korver is basically the same player as Crabbe at this point in his career, but with the advantage of only making $5 million and an expiring contract.

We have plenty of guys whose salaries we can package to match Millsap, or Millsap + Korver.

Of course, on the court, Millsap and Noel would be a great fit. I'd still prefer Ibaka over Millsap, due to age, but they are both the kind of 2-way players we desperately need in our front court.

Ehhhh no on milsap and korver. I'm telling you nerlens is the move. Move plumlee to pf. Team gets better off that move easily

I've pushing hard for Noel since late October, but pairing Noel at C with Plumlee at PF still gives us ZERO 2-way players in our starting line up. That's not a recipe for success. Harklesss would be the closest thing we have for a 2-way player, but he's average at both, at best. You can't play 2 on five (or 2.5 on 5) at both ends of the court and expect to succeed.

That's why I'd love to see us pair Noel with a solid 2-way PF like Ibaka or Millsap, someone that is decidedly above average at both ends of the court.

Korver would just be a temporary throw in to give us some scoring off the bench until a permanent solution can be found. Or not. I'm indifferent on this one, but the thread title says they are shopping both. So, I'd take Korver if it helped facilitate a deal that nets us Millsap.

Korver is a great pure shooter. At everything else, meh. And he's old.

I watched him with the Bulls for a few years.

He's a tweener that's too slow for SG and plays too small for SF.

Philly actually played him at PF for a while, for lack of any position he was good.

Just two seasons ago, he was the starting SG on a 60-win team while leading the entire league in 3FG% (.492), while playing 32 MPG.

Because their starting front court consisted of Al Horford, Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll, they could cover for Korver's weak defense.

But I agree, at his current age, he's nothing more than an older, slightly more efficient version of Allen Crabbe.

I could see Korver and Sefolosha going to OKC for Sabonis, Payne, and a couple years of swap rights.

Sefolosha would be a good pickup for that CLE 1st after we trade Crabbe for Noel.

They won't be trading Sefolosha I think. He's been good, has a favorable contract and it's Bazemore who they should try to offload.

Millsap to Toronto indeed makes a lot of sense. I don't think they have the assets to get Cousins, even if they offer JV + Ross it is still short of what Sacramento will be expecting. Millsap and JV in the frontcourt looks threatening.

Korver makes sense for the Bucks as a stop gap signing before Middleton returns in 2-3 months.

I agree with that personally, but as i understand it, Raptors management appreciates the current state in which the players are happy, the fans are happy, everything is running smoothly and club revenue is only going up.
