The guy was the 51st pick. How often are those guys useful? At least we picked someone who has an elite skill, 2nd rounders that deep usually don't make rosters.

I don't get why people are throwing their hands in the air over Diebler or Smith.

He appears to be a better shooter than Rudy. I'll be very happy if he is similar to Kyle Korver.
Rudy never proved to me that he deserves the "shooter" label. He's inconsistent, passes up open shots / lacks confidence, and seems to prefer to slash to the hoop more than shoot.

Look at his stroke. And look at those 10 three pointers he made in that OSU/PSU game, none of his shots are close to the college arc. He's a 50%+ shooter from 4-6' behind the college arc, which will translate to 45%+ from the NBA arc. He'll be a Bonner/Korver/Kerr type of specialist that will make his name for being a deadly outside shooter when one is needed. That's saying something, which is more than Rudy would ever be able to say with his 36% from behind the arc. At least Diebler will make the roster and have a role off the bench (which is more than 90% of these 2nd rounders will be able to say from this weak draft class).

I go with this. What's wrong with having a designated shooter? Sure, he'll never be an all-star (I'll never understand why so many posters think if we don't make every draftee a top 50 of all time player, it's a wasted pick), but he can still have good value over time. I liked the pick for far down in the draft.

Actually i was going to say that, but in all fairness to Rudy, he could too in a sub par league. The NBA is another animal. But at the very least we replaced Rudy with someone similar, but with out the ego.

Look, enough of the Rudy-bashing. He was not one-dimensional. He was at LEAST two dimensional. I don't see Diebler dunking on Dwight Howard any time soon. Rudy was a very underrated passer, and he got a lot better as a defender. There's a reason he was a top-20 adjusted +/- guy in the league.

While Diebler's physical profile is less than impressive, he ranks as one of the most efficient players in college basketball over the last decade, ranking #1 in True Shooting Percentage and points per possession

Although highlights can be deceptive, Diebler looks like he's not just another spot up shooter. He can shoot on the move or on the dribble (somewhat) and with a defender on him, instead of how some 3 point shooters can only shoot 1 kind of shot (wide open).

I would hope so! Babbitt's an All-American picked at #16 with a year of experience. If he isn't, then we fucked up LAST year's draft, not this year's.
