I at least see some logic in this. Nobody who was in favor of the tariffs expected them to have their full effect immediately. You mitigate the detriment to the farmers and play the long game for the (presumed) benefit to other workers.

Not an economist, so I don't have an educated opinion on whether or not the logic behind the tariffs themselves is sound, but I don't think that the tariffs necessitating farming subsidies automatically means that the tariffs themselves were bad.

this is very obviously a tax payer giveaway to his heartland farmer base to try to keep them happy for the mid terms. strip away all the other nonsense, and its clear as day. This shit backfired on him in the short term, and they are getting pissed, so he is buying their votes back with the tax payers money.

yes, who the fuck knows if the tariffs will work. its an interesting experiment. but now, we are ALL paying for the opportunity to find out. fingers crossed!
