In the 1968 & 1969 seasons he went a combined 55-15 with 51 complete games & 2 CYAs And he was only 25 years old.

Over the next 3 seasons he went a combined 17-34 with an ERA of 5.09 for 4 different teams & played his last game in 1972. He was only 28 years old.

Ironically his last batter was Pete Rose who would be banned from baseball for the very same thing that ruined this players career.

What a waste.........................

I saw that movie....the upside of anger.

Gambling is as much an addiction for some as is alcohol or narcotics. We may find that PED use is a similar illness.

...I tend to look at it as more of a "weakness" than an illness. They've managed to put some sort of clinical name for just about every screwed up person there is.

Weakness, absolutely. But in the spirit of never having to own one's actions, it can be blamed on an 'illness'.

These touchy feely interpretations could be used in the future, applied to guys with HOF careers, just not HOF character.

It seems American Culture over decades, has abandoned self-discipline, and self-responsibility, in general; by teaching our youth or leaders of tomorrow, to generally, point their fingers at others, ie, any and everything that IS not the problem.

Especially, when Life or any issue comes down to accepting Personal Responsibilities.....

Blame others first, run like hell, so one doesn't stick around to find out they are the root cause of their own probs.....

Which brings me to a little thing called A.D.D. (attention deficit disorder) Something I have a hard time believing in. When I was a kid & would look out the window in school or doodle it was because I was bored but today its a illness & the pharmaceutical companies making money hand over fist have a pill for it. So what was once bordom is now an illness. Or as I like to call it, A licence for kids to screw up, an excuse.

"You can't get mad at me Mrs Miller, I've got an illness. Na na na na na".

And running a close 2nd is A.D.H.D. (Attention deficit hyperactive disorder) Like running in the halls, or chasing a friend around the desk. Nothing a swift kick in the ass wouldn't fix years ago. But NOOOOO! not anymore, Now its an illness. But not to fear, THERE'S ANOTHER FUCKING PILL!!! Just amazing.

...I'll give a good example of my thinking, as barbaric as it may seem.

...The POS who shot Chris Kyle,...this jackwagon is claiming mental illness and the he should not be held accountable for his actions because he doesn't really know the difference between right and wrong. I have a problem with that defense, but if he doesn't know the difference and if it makes me feel better, I'd gladly be his executioner.
...sorry, but again I have a problem with this murderer spending the rest of his life in prison costing me and my tax dollars $50K a year. (approximately)

I hear you Rick. Kim often would point these issues out when she worked at and for the Schools, transitioning from elementary, to Jr. High, to High School, with her job, at the same time our boys made these transitions.

IMO, and from what I've seen close up & personal, both with my Nephews, Nieces, and kids on my LL Teams. Were, Kids who were taking Ritalin, so often, (the Majority) IMO, Did NOT have ADHD or ADD. They had a problem with a lack of Love or attention from their parents, who had extremely poor parenting skills; IMO. Parents, who put themselves ahead of their kids, when it comes to fulfilling what it is, they wanted/needed in life, above their kids own needs.

As you said, to easy to give a kid a pill, due to a poor or negligent analysis by a Dr. I had more than my hands full of kids deemed "with special needs", many on Ritalin. Seemed at that era, it was the IN-Thing to do, to put your kid on Ritalin for simply showing any motivation to do anything. In other words, "oh their to high strung, and don't pay attention", well why would they pay attention, when 1st, the classroom material has been proven to be years behind their skill sets, and they need more of a Scholastic Challenge. 2nd- If only given a few moments a day, for a Parent to embrace their kids, tell them You Love them daily, you'd be amazed how different these types of kids grow up differently; often with a purpose in life, at early young ages.

I give Kids who are supposedly having ADHD, or ADD problems, no credit for having such a supposed physical/mental condition, they didn't ask for it, or create their condition for themselves. Rather it was already a chosen route for them, based on poor performances as Parents. Parents blow my mind, these days, how greedy they are with their time, and never if rarely put their kids goals, or needs, ahead of their own. Hell, those kids did not even choose their names, religions, no more than they chose their often mis-diagnosed- conditions. I guess just because a M.D. and not a Pyscho-Therapists says so, that cements the entire deal, of Bullshit...!

And=

Yep, I don't buy the bullshit defense of not knowing right from wrong, with persons who kill others, and get Life In Prison, what a cop out, or proof of our broken down judicial systems......its not just broken, its a effing joke, to the Hilts....!!!
