I don’t want MDA but if some posters here are right and an MDA hire means CJ is traded and Melo/Kanter are gone what’s the problem exactly? Those 3 moves alone would improve the D wouldn’t they?

Why Joerger?
there are multiple reasons, but id start with him being a proper coach who holds his players accountable, quite the opposite of terry stotts and he knows how to coach bigs (guy worked his magic with marc gasol), therefore he would probably be the best choice for nurk and collins... people shouldnt judge him by his sacramento tenure, they are mess and you cant fix that, simple as that, but he was unemployed at the time and took the job

i think the blazers would be the most talented team hes ever had, therefore it would be good opportunity for him to work his magic

I think if we do hire MDA then we are definitely trading CJ. The Rockets shot like zero mid range shots and that's CJ's bread and butter. Sure he could change up his system but I highly doubt that imo.
cj mccollum shoot 9 3-pointers per game last season

he would fit in his system perfectly, a chucker that doesnt play defense (i.e. james harden)

I think Joeger is underappreciated. His teams have improved every single season except 1 in his coaching career. Then he also won something like 5 title over a 7 year span in the 'minor' leagues. His last year in SAC, he coached them to more wins than they have had in ~15 years.
from what ive read, he got fired by sacramento kings cause he had dispute with the front office

Given the track record of the Kings Front office, I don't see that being a negative
exactly and i think hell get the job somewhere sooner or later, but maybe his behaviour is standing in his way

hes still pretty young (47)

Only 10 games, but Melo played more minutes under MDA in Houston than he did here under Stotts this year
But Melo played more in his first season here than when he was in Houston. The reason why his mind went down was simply because we had more forwards we could use. Melo was literally only battling bazemore and Mario for mins and the of course Ariza once we traded for him. This year guys like RoCo, DJ, Little, RHJ, Hood, Powell, and Trent all contributed to his mins being reduced

While here unknown coach Willie Green assistant from phoenix been interviewing for head coaches spot. It doesn't say which teams though.

That's true as well. But CJ still liked to shoot his mid range shots as well.

Per woj Twitter

Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and Spurs assistant Becky Hammon are among candidates who’ll get second interviews for the Portland Trail Blazers head coaching job this week, sources tell ESPN

it’s gonna be billups. No MDA yesss

ooh this is telling. If it was MDA, the hiring would have been announced.

But the wording is intriguing.

"among candidates " suggests there's more than these two.

all this talk about how hard it would be to fire becky made me think that if that kinda sentiment were real, there is no way Dame asks out if she's hired. not sure you could say the same if it were MDA.

I’d rather Billups watching the Clippers series.

I don’t like what I’ve heard about Becky on this board but that was just one source and I was a big fan of hiring her before then, so I’d probably still be on board and just hope that all that wasn’t true.

I’ve been all in on Billups though, and he if he’s getting a second interview ownership is probably comfortable with him as well. He’s my first choice.

Barry is still the sleeper tho imo.

ownership comfort is prolly a given for all these guys getting second interviews.

but this is the part of the process where the candidates will actually meet with jody and they're gonna get Dame's opinions. think this is where Becky will shine.

Btw no one actually reported that Billups would take a second interview with Boston, only that Boston hoped to get one. Not like it would matter much if he did get one, but I still think the Portland job is his to lose.

I doubt dame will be involved in the final stages. All the final candidates are most likely already vetted by him. He’s not needed for the rest. Imagine getting to interview and decide your future boss. Makes no sense.

happens quite a bit in corporate america. i've interviewed candidates for a position that became my manager a year later (also eventually led to me leaving the company, but regardless).

but dame's level of involvement is the question. i don't think he's gonna sit in and listen to them answer questions in the same room as Jody et al. but it's naiive to think he's not getting the lowdown on their visions and he will inevitably convey to Olshey his thought on that.
