I wonder if Nate McMillan could be nabbed away from Atlanta after the season ends. I think he’s still just the interim coach there.
 
Looks like Luke Walton is going to be available.
 
I’m warming up to the idea of a totally fresh and new coach - could be a recently retired guy. Someone who gets the current state of the NBA. If Shane Battier wants to coach, or a guy like Chauncey Billups. Kind of over the veteran guys.
 
Juwan Howard and Ime Udoku...heroes who each saved a season for us. Same for Viktor Khryapa. They filled gaping holes in our roster which saved us from falling to the bottom of the league.

At the end of their heroic seasons, we dumped them like garbage. We owed each another season. I complained and everyone said, huh?

This may have been on the ESPN board before I came here. I didn't look up the years.

I liked Udoka when he was here, and I like that he's spent so much time in the best-run franchise in the league. He was a role player who cut his teeth on defense and shooting threes and fitting in next to a star guard (Brandon Roy). Sign me up for that.

As for Mark Jackson--jesus, have you listened to that guy during games? He has the same 4 or 5 cliches and that's about it. I can't imagine players listening to that shit for more than a season before completely tuning him out. I wouldn't work for him, and I can't imagine pro athletes want to either.

Seems to me the Spurs are the organization Olshey has tried most to model, so Udoka or Hammon seem like fits, although I just don't know how a team would respond to a woman head coach. If any team/city can do it, it's Portland though.

P.S. Mark Jackson is The. Worst.

dame, Nurk, and CJ have all praised Hammon in the past, so I think she’d be a perfect fit.

Why? just curious I dont know what her strengths are other than being a good player and working for POP.
 
This isn't really my kind of topic or thread but i do think there is a likely candidate.

I just cannot see anyone other than Becky Hammon replacing Stotts. Just seems like the perfect match and choice for the Blazers at this point.

My arguments for Becky:

1. She comes from "Pop school", the Spurs always had a great ball movement and Team Basketball

2. Pop knows how to play defense and i'm sure he teached her many defensive schemes

3. When you learn from Pop, i think you are not afraid to hold your players accountable, which the Blazers players desperately need

So in my opinion she would be a great candidate and my top choice. I have no doubts that she would be an upgrade over Stotts, which is not too dificult tbh
 
Not to mention Hammon has been a winner at every level.

Unrelated fun fact: Sacramento has had a winning record under only one head coach, Rick Adelman.

All good things must come to an end. Especially when “great” was the goal.

Nearly nine years after Stotts became Trail Blazers head coach, sources say his time in the role is increasingly expected to come to an end after this season, in large part, because this team just can’t find a way to truly become elite. The Western Conference finals appearance in 2019 has been the apex of the Stotts era, with four first-round exits and two in the second round during this stretch of seven consecutive playoff berths. For the Trail Blazers, several factors — the lack of progress and adjustments over the course of the season, as well as Stotts’ stint with the franchise running its course after nine years — have made clear that the team will likely look for a fresh voice in the offseason.

If Stotts can’t “pull a rabbit out of his hat” with a playoff miracle of sorts, as one source put it, the Blazers are expected to opt for a new coaching voice. And the Damian Lillard timeline, it seems, is playing a big part here.

The 30-year-old franchise centerpiece has three seasons left on his deal, with a player option worth $54.2 million in the 2024-25 campaign. His loyalty to Portland has been well-chronicled, but there’s a strong sense that a new coach may be needed to make the most of these next few seasons. Stotts, who sources say has less player support now than he did in years past, has one season left (upwards of $6 million).

Among the potential coaching candidates for the Trail Blazers, sources say: Lakers assistant Jason Kidd, Hawks interim coach Nate McMillan, 76ers assistant Dave Joerger, Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and Spurs vice president of basketball operations Brent Barry.

Sources say Blazers chairwoman Jody Allen, who took over for her brother, Paul, when he passed away in October 2018, has become increasingly focused on the Blazers’ future this season. What’s more, the absence of fans inside the Moda Center for so much of the season meant Stotts was being closely monitored by ownership inside a fishbowl environment that didn’t help his cause.

If the Blazers ultimately make a move on the Stotts front, sources say they’d be likely to go for a big name, high-dollar coach to replace him. Remember, this is the same ownership group that has the Seattle Seahawks and their dynamic leader, Pete Carroll. The thinking, potentially, is that it’s time for Lillard’s Blazers to have someone of that ilk to take them to the next level.
 


This type of move will almost certainly end up with Olshey being fired in a couple years.

Olshey is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic if he hires one of those two.
 
firing terry stotts is what should happen, but hiring wrong head coach is not what should happen, all those names mentioned in the article are wrong candidates according to me

just decide what do you want (offensive minded head coach, who knows more than just iso bball or defensive minded head coach), but that guy should be someone with no experience as a head coach

clean slate is what portland trail blazers need, fresh blood, not someone who was head coach in the nba and got fired multiple times lol

A few years ago I had a chance to talk to Stockton for a little while and he had zero interest in being front and center in any capacity of public life. He was a very nice guy though.
 
No way the city of Portland would endorse Jason Kidd. He slapped his wife. I know it has been years, but the crazy world of today does not care when the incident occured.
