Billups is interesting. I know he and Dame are close. He has been a candidate for numerous front office positions and even passed on one. Hes now an assistant coach. Pete Carroll’s power in Seattle extends beyond just the field as he’s also the VP. If the report is true that ownership wants to find a Carroll type for the blazers, Billups could be a legit candidate.

I don’t buy Kidd as a legit candidate. Joerger interests me though. This same article mentioned Budenholzer as possibly becoming available if the bucks don’t make a deep run. Could he emerge as a candidate if so?
 
I wonder if Jay Wright could be an option. Portland is gonna be an attractive job.

You don't want her only because she's female? I'm not sure that flies in this day and age.
 
Somewhat noteworthy on Billups: olshey acquired him while he was with the clippers and when dame was drafted the player Neil compared him to was Billups. So there’s some history there.
 
Hammond seems like a slam dunk, my only worry would be whether or not she'd be able to command the locker room. I think with leaders like Dame around, she could, but a touch fearful of if/when those guys move on and we end up with a less respectable guy as the center of the team...

On Billups -- I've been intrigued by him as a coach for a long time. I can remember hearing a story late in his playing days about him drawing up a game winning shot play during a timeout that the staff and all of the players were just in awe of. He pulled in specific, detailed components like which defenders were the most gassed, how they preferred to work through screens/guard against mismatches, etc. and was able to -- AS A PLAYER -- draw up the play, communicate it to the team in the timeout window, get everyone on the same page, and then go out and execute it with something like 4 seconds left, and of course it worked and they won. People across the league revere his basketball IQ as being among the best ever.
 
I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Mike Brown. Has championship experience working with stars. He has been an assistant with the Warriors a few years. Not sure he is the best option, but wouldn't surprise me to see his name in the hat.

Pure conjecture on my part, but I believe that as a woman, rightly or wrongly, she will be even more incentivized to “command respect from the players” due to her being a woman in a “mans” industry.
And I think that’s a bonus in this case.

She has Tim Duncan's respect, and I think that is probably good enough for most players.

I didn’t say she didn’t. It’s about having an inherent chip on your shoulder.

Listen to women in sports, or minorities such as Masai Ujiri, most of which have the utmost respect from their peers but they still say — they’ve had that chip on their shoulder because they had to have it while coming up through the ranks. It doesn’t just go away.

And... your second comment pretty much agrees with me. I bet she’s tough as nails + extra tough because she feels she needs to be “to prove women can do this.”

honestly it’s not even a controversial statement. Men, women, POC always say this stuff. They/ “we” since I’m a POC, often over compensate in certain ways to prove that we can do something.

This happens a lot with black men in corporate America, for instance. They talk about this on the shop or whatever LeBron show is.

Kinda reminds me of Pete Carroll or whoever said they don’t recruit players from houses with 2 car garages or whatever it was, just something I like about ppl with an extra chip on their shoulder.

I'd prefer a Pop disciple. Becky I think has a great temperament for it. She doesn't seem nearly as lax as Stotts. She gets after it.

That's hilarious... He was actually at his daughters game when I was talking to him. I didn't talk to him during the game because he was lazer focused up in the bleachers. I wouldn't have wanted to be in your shoes!
 
Hammon is like Dame and CJ, an underrated undersized player who got no major college offers. Played for a small school, Colorado State, led them to Sweet Sixteen but still went undrafted. Got taken on as a training camp player. Became six time all star, all WNBA first team twice, made it to Finals.

When Popovich was thrown out of a game she took over, becoming first woman to act as head coach in NBA. When asked later if she was thinking about making history, she replied she was thinking about beating LA.
