The people actively against Kidd; why? Not a snarky question, I’m genuinely curious. He’s not my top choice or anything but I wouldn’t say I’m on a crusade against him either.

Lakers' Jason Kidd Reportedly Expected to Be Top Target for Blazers' HC Job

Idk, was Carroll good in New England? That doesn’t necessarily mean he isnt a good coach. Environment matters.

But something might have happened between NE and Seattle that showed that Carroll was an excellent coach.

Common misconception. He had the best defensive in the playoffs last season with Houston.
Kind of middle of the road:
  • 2019-2020 Houston defensive rating: 14th of 30
  • 2018-2019 Houston defensive rating: 17th of 30
  • 2017-2018 Houston defensive rating: 6th of 30
  • 2016-2017 Houston defensive rating: 18th of 30

The KNOWN coaches worth getting who would signify a serious attempt by the franchise to go big, would be Pop and Spoelstra.

And one is probably close to retirement and the other has an insane contract with his team (the incentives that he gets are not matchable here plus income tax).

They better not go with a tired retread or another Maurice Cheeks clone.

that was one example. What happened in between belichicks browns and patriots gig that showed he was an excellent head coach?

great article, though he does have it backwards - being female will increase her likelihood of getting a head coaching job.

Personally, I think she has the respect of players around the NBA, and that is huge.

She definitely has the respect of Dame, CJ, and Nurkic, that’s a fact. That doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be a great head coach, but you gotta start somewhere and sometimes that’s the hardest part.

I kind of like how the Minnesota GM did it. He knew exactly whom he wanted before he fired the other coach. Does Olshey have enough personal knowledge of people around the league to be able to do that, or even pick two or three people as finalists?

Well, not a fan of Kidd, but maybe he can improve the Defense. The Lakers have been really good defensive team. So that would be at least an upgrade over Stotts

I'm looking for a bit more than at least an upgrade over Stotts.

That's a pretty low bar.

Since it takes nearly a decade to remove a mediocre coach, I'd really prefer not to bring in someone who already sucked somewhere else.

Those look like the regular season numbers. Not bad considering how small they went. My preference is for a Pop disciple but I wouldn't be mad at Dantoni either. He gets great jobs for a reason.

Let's make sure the coach and the GM agree on what kind of players they want in Portland. The DJJ signing seems to be a perfect example of dissonance.

or we hire a coach who can implement more than one system and adapt to his new players. The plays we ran this year, we've been running since 2016. dude doesn't change his system, nor can he adapt and make adjustments in the middle of game.

The guy has a square peg that he uses no matter whether the hole is round, triangle, square..... rectangle. Didn't matter.

Hearing the Blazers will look at Jason Kidd as the next coach

From what I recall in another thread, it’s because he beat his wife or something like that (allegedly.)

don’t know if he was convicted or not and don’t wanna google it

I have a NBA example of a head coach who wasn't good at his first two stops and was given a 3rd chance.

thanks for proving my point. Guy made the playoffs once in those two stops, then came to Portland and essentially never missed them while becoming one of the longest tenured coaches in the league. Like I said, environment matters.

Maybe the Jason Kidd rumors are being put out to make Stotts look better so they keep him another year
