Its Billups or D’Antoni. Hammon, Barry, etc will interview. They’ll hire one of those two. If Chauncey doesn’t nail interview it’s MDA.

One of these two, or one of those two?

Here is what I just got:
- players tune her out when it’s her scout

Can you reword that, please? What does that mean?

san antonio spurs are the best organization in the nba and pop is a genius

if that was true, becky wouldnt be there and its been 7 years since she became assistant

Brent Barry has been VP there for 3 years. Same advantage.

If she were, SA would send the message that she's going to be Pop's eventual replacement and she would be untouchable.
or... ya know, they think she's actually deserving of a head coaching gig seeing as how there's only 30 of them in the world and they don't want her to miss out?

since when did everyone get so cynical?

yes she should be viewed equally, but let’s be real, she isn’t. If she got fired hell would break loose, almost like it will if/when Olshey passes, but worse.

My 2 sources in San Antonio say that Olshey won't pass away till he's 90.

In this forum you would be free to criticize her coaching like we've allowed other coaches to be criticized. But if you use sexist BS in your criticisms of her and/or her coaching that won't be allowed.

That's only until your mysterious, Denny-like disappearance.

how is it that the Spurs are trapped and stuck with her? I hope it isn't going be some stuff about not being able to fire a woman

It would involve sex causing her conflict of interest, like she had with Tony Parker before becoming his boss, per the article I posted.

Why? What happened to caring about defense? The other interviews don't matter?

Honestly the one fear I have about hiring Hammon is that if she’s a miss, we won’t fire her because of how it would look.

Funny. I was actually thinking the very same thing about the Spurs. Pop is all in on getting her hired somewhere. I wonder if it's because he doesn't want to fire a woman coach?

Like Stotts, D’Antoni has had a couple of outlier years where his teams were in the top 10 in defensive rating, but overall they have been shitty defensive teams. WHAT IN THE FUCK ARE WE LOOKING AT THIS GUY FOR?

I did simple defensive rating. It’s absolutely not the end all be all of determining defense, but it’s telling enough to wonder why a GM, who just fired and drove a bus over a beloved coach because of defense, would even consider hiring Mike D’Antoni

Of course a female coach could be criticized. A Black coach could be criticized. If, say, Billups gets the job and someone says he should never have substituted player X in this situation, fine. If someone says that stupid n----r should not have substituted player X in that situation, not fine. Same with Hammon or Staley. They would be NBA coaches. Period.

This isn't an election by the fans. Any coach that is hired, is so by the owner and they have every right to do as they wish. There are plenty of men assistants that have been passed up, so if she gets passed up, shouldn't be a big deal. If she gets hired instead of anyone else, shouldn't be a big deal. Seem's we've become a society of who can whine the loudest and most often.

And as a paying fan. A season ticket buying fan. A league pass buying fan. I have every right to voice my displeasure of any candidate, scheme, player that I want to. It certainly doesn’t mean I have a say in anything, but as a FANatic of a team, I’m going to whine, cheer, praise, etc because that’s what fans do. If I don’t like it enough, as with the Jason Kidd news, I’ll pull my money.

So at some level, it’s about the fans

Thats cool and Im too am a freedom guy and FANatic. Just seems there is to much conjecture before anything has happened and once something does happen it beat to death.
If I countered my wife with everything she said or did, neither would be happy and inspirational at some point. The freedom is there just that it doesn't have to used to constantly criticize.

Sorry. calvin natt has shared too many things that nobody "unconnected" would know. and they always turn out to be legit. I literally can't remember even one BS story from the guy in what must be 15-20 years.

Doesn't matter to me if you trust him, but there is no doubt in my mind about the validity of these claims.

Can I have an example?

It’d be more like your wife has been making turkey bacon for the last 9 years and finally decides it’s not good enough. Now you know for a FACT that regular bacon is way better, but she decides to go with a different brand of turkey bacon thinking that will make it better, when in reality it’s still not going to be as good as regular bacon

I think there’s a point in there somewhere

maybe they’re not as sensitive as you?

It’s funny, the majority on here will agree that Stotts was the primary reason for failure, but if the GM says it he’s an asshole.
We have rank amateurs in here while GMs are highly paid professionals. Can you see the difference.
If our guys think they could do a better job than Olshey, why don't they apply for a job as a GM and why are they not hired as a GM?

Terry Stotts was lucky in that he was free of criticism because he was white.

It’s basketball, it ain’t that deep. A GM can have the same opinion as a fan and they can both be right.

Don't like the hire of Hammons. This is a team trying to win a championship now. We don't need to hire someone just to be the "first" and we don't need the distractions of the circus that would come with that kind of hire. Even if she is a great coach, she will be a distraction. As far as black coaches go, that is irrelevant. Black coaches have been winning NBA titles for over 50 years. Nobody is going to question whether Chauncy Billups got hired because he was black.

But hiring the first woman? No. Let a team that is doing a complete rebuild do that. She can be a distraction to why the team sucks during the rebuild and the team has nothing to lose. The Blazers window with Dame is coming to a close. We don't need a media frenzy over everthing the coach does.

Heads up: if you don’t believe a word of this fine. Do not care. Thought I would share what I heard today from two people who I have known for 20+ years who work in the NBA and one directly connected to Spurs. Carry on. Definitely not worth it I guess. Fuck it.
Hey, there are always gonna be skeptics and they are usually more vocal than others. Seems like there are only two here and the vast majority of us are happy to hear your insights. Those insights seem to confirm my own observations in videos and live summer action.

I really don't get this mentality.

The novelty factor with Becky will last a couple weeks. Month max. then it's all about her merits coaching basketball.

care to expand on these observations? i'm genuinely curious what you saw.

I thought one of the first qualifications that was listed in the beginning was head coaching experience. Seems like D’Antoni is the only guy who fits that criteria.

after my freshman season in college, I worked on a road construction crew in Eastern Oregon....east of John Day. I bought a Rambler Classic station wagon for 75 dollars and the damn thing worked. I put 35000 miles on it in two years to bump it well over 200K miles. My buddies would ride in it but it was a fucking chore to coax any gal to even consider getting near the thing (easier to blame the car than myself). It was ugly, but ran like a dream as long as you didn't want to street race. 3 speed with overdrive and I still remember filling up the tank when the price of regular was 24.9 cents/gal
Hallelujah, I'm not the only old geezer in here.
I remember gas wars in Portland when a gallon went for less than 20 cents and you got a free glass and they would check your tire pressure, battery, radiator and fill your windshield washer with fluid and wash your windows. I could fill my tank for less than $3 and get a car wash at the same place for a buck.

More what I didn't see. Saw someone very vocal and encouraging but never saw her give any specific basketball advice or strategy.

This sounds optimistic. She’ll be put on a pedestal just because she’s a woman. An overcorrection, if you will. Her leash will undoubtedly be longer than a mans.

and you gleaned this from watching summer league games on TV?

here is what one of their players said:

“The way I look at it is: We are all professionals. Whether it’s summer league or regular season, playoffs, whatever. It doesn’t matter. When you get to this point, you’re a professional,” says Williams, now with the Brooklyn Nets G-League team. “And you know you’re going to work with other people. And all you want out of those other people is to work together for that common goal. Whether we just want to make the playoffs or play for a championship or whether we just want to improve from season to season, if you can prove to me that we both are going to be of equal or greater value to this organization, that’s all I care about. Becky was just so awesome in development. In Xs and Os. It’s not so shocking because she works with the Spurs. She learned, obviously, and was a sponge and in that form.”

People need to read Gasol's article about why Hammon is so deserving of a HC job.

Pau was actually on the team.

Read it.

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/articles/pau-gasol-becky-hammon

You can't fake this.
I did appreciate this from the article; it's something specific: But what I remember about this particular drill is that, at some point during it, Coach Hammon stopped us mid-motion. Coaches Hammon, Borrego and Messina walk over, and Becky says to Dejounte, “D.J., O.K. — your bounce pass? It’s too low. You’ve got to hit Pau exactly where he needs it. Run that again.” We then talk some more as a group about how I need the ball a little more precise, with a little more zip, so I could have a better chance to finish the action at the rim. And then we repeat the drill a few times, alternating from the left and right sides of court.

should this really matter? we're making a hire on how easy/difficult it will be to fire them?
