Qualifier Jiri Vesely has defeated world number 44, Adrian Mannarino (FRA) 6-3 6-2 to become the 2015 Heineken Open Singles champion.

Today’s final was the first ATP world tour final for both players, with 21-year-old Vesely (world number 63) making his debut in Auckland this week as a qualifier. Vesely’s determination was visible from the outset, and after seven matches over the past week, he has taken the top spot.

The 6’6” Czech is known for his big serve, which no doubt helped him secure his first career wins over Top 20 players – top seed Ernests Gulbis in the second round, and fourth seed Kevin Anderson in Friday’ssemi-final.
