Heisman race

Listening to all the pundits, it sounds like the race is really down to two legitimate candidates, Cam Newton and our own LaMichael James.

Cam Newton (that name sounds like like bad writing on the syfy channel) seems to have the lead, but it's hard to tell by how much. If Auburn and Oregon both win out and both players keep putting up impressive stats, I don't think James can catch up in the race. I think the only chance for James is if Cam sputters in the final week to Alabama, and even then I think James might not be able to catch up.

The thing with LaMichael is that he didn't play in game 1. And he didn't even play the 2nd half in half the games. I'm not sure what Auburn did when they got a big lead in many of their games, so maybe it evens out.

Newton is good. I'm really wondering how his game will translate to the NFL. I wouldn't mind if the Niners took a gamble on him.

I would vote for LaMichael as the shotgun is hard to run from as you get the ball with less momentum than an I formation. He has to create more of his own yards.

As the most recent update says--tie always goes to the QB. Unless he has a really bad game leading to a loss, it's Newton's to lose, even if James breaks 2,000 (IMO).

Yeah, but they run the pistol formation a lot, so it's not as hard as a traditional shotgun. You could make the argument the spread makes it easier for a lot of RBs to gain yards since the D is spread horizontally and it's easier to gash the defense straight up the middle. There's no doubt that LaMichael is talented. I just don't see him getting the Heisman with all the east coast voters. He'd have to do some amazing things against Arizona & Oregon State (250+ yards & 3 TDs against each) to sway voters. But in the end, QBs usually get the vote due to positional importance.

That is honestly pretty ridiculous. The spread offense/zone read is way easier to run out of in college football right now than any other formation.
