90 FTs? I can't believe I was complaining about the replacement refs.

We hate Replacement refs.. now we hate real refs. Who is left to bring back?

Donaghy and Violet Palmer!!!!!!!! Make it happen!!!!!!

The bet tonight must've been which one could call more fouls, loser tips the ball boys.

I think the referees met in the offseason and decided big men were simply going to accumulate fouls at an astonishing rate this year.

It's a SF league and under from this point. Big men, start looking toward volleyball as a career.

This isn't even a Greg thing any more. I mean 5 fouls on our entire 6'11 over front court on Tuesday, then 5 on both Greg and Joel tonight, and Nene and Martin fouling out. That's pretty crazy.

Here's what frustrates me: the replacement officials called the fouls because they were clueless. These guys knew exactly what they were doing.

Yep. No need having big men anymore in the NBA. It's a LeBron/Kobe/Wade league right now.

It felt like the referees were handing out free throws randomly in the second half of the fourth quarter. It didn't seem biased against Portland, it just added a silly and unnecessary wildcard to the game. Breathe on someone and be called for a foul. Maybe.

I agree. I'm not saying it was biased. Both teams shot a ridiculous amount of FTs. It was bizarre.

I agree. I felt it was pretty shitty refereeing towards both teams that took the big men out of any rhythm they may have wanted to establish. It didn't help nor hurt Portland anymore than it helped or hurt Denver - both teams were victim of a real bad reffing crew tonight. Denver just made their free throws where we as a team decided to collectively fall apart via The Steve Blake Clutch Time Free Throw Virus.

Tonight it was the Andre Miller Virus. LMA and Oden caught it. Though, the Miller strain might be bacterial.

:drumroll:

Easily the worst officiated game I've attended in person. No flow, phantom calls and refs anticipating contact that never happened. I think the refs needed a preseason.

Sounds like they needed to make some quick cash by betting the spread!

Actually I believe Brandon missed his before Andre. Considering Brandon has been around Steve Blake for a pretty long time I'm still connecting this to the Steve Blake Clutch Free Throw Virus.

After a day spent reading very believable Donaghy quotes, that was not exactly the type of officiating I wanted to see. The whole thing seemed, well, contrived and artificial. Late whistles, obvious make-up calls, and far too much "management" of the action.

The over/under on that game was 200. The free throw parade in the last 7 minutes of that game got it really, really close to the over. I hate that I have to think something like that about this sport.

Perhaps they all read those Donaghy excerpts and decided they were going to call as many fouls on both sides as possible to show they're unbiased. :dunno:

Under scrutiny, Tim would now be the most honest referee in the league. And Violet...they got rid of her?

I find it really depressing that the first thing I thought of while watching the game was "man, the refs must have some shenanigans going."

at one point there were 7 possessions in a row that ended in free throws(though two were continued by offensive rebounds). i'm not sure i'd ever seen something like that before.

I'm almost positive I haven't... at least, not in a Blazer game. Maybe in the bad old days of the 1997 or 1998 playoffs, when 80 point games were the norm...

I just checked, and Palmer is still an NBA ref. She just hasn't done any games this season so far. Last season she did 65 games, the season before 63, etc.

It could be a long season if the bigs have to play with one hand tied behind their back.

At the same time, I would point out that this was pretty near or was a playoff intensity basketball game. Folks scream about how they want running offense. This is what happens in the playoffs. Physical play. Tons of fouls. No easy buckets. Lots of game play stoppage. You have to be able to execute in the half court. I expected a playoff intensity game last night. I just wish it didn't happen this early in the season so the team could get some chemistry going first.

so she's reffing nba and doing this? :

"On May 28, 2009, Palmer was hired as coordinator of women's basketball officials for the West Coast Conference.[5"

yeah she stepped down last season from reffing nba games, the ref site you checked must not have updated.
