Henry Abbott: Roy is 2nd most disappointing player in the playoffs

I actually wondered why Roy was in more and they werent. I so appreciate his warrior mentality. but Nate needed to have the cojones to say "you are hurting us more than helping us now" That among a couple other things is what got me off the fence about Nate.

I'm not sure I'd go so far to call him one of the most disappointing players in the playoffs, because he performed pretty much like how I expected him to perform, but Abbot is mostly correct in his assessment that Brandon's presence (aside from the emotional lift he gave in game 4) was more of a distraction and detraction than a help.

Oh well, I just hope his knees hold up next year and he's able to go by the time we get to the post-season; as it is I kind of look at Roy as being a bit like a guy in his early thirties in terms of how many miles are left on the tread of those 'wheels.'

My good friend Source told me it was Rudy who talked Roy into coming back and wearing out his old bones. Looks like Roy won't last many years.

He's disappointed because he's a huge Blazers fan. That is all it means.

I agree with him, we would have been better off if Roy never played at all in the playoffs. Of course at the time we didn't know that, but looking back his play hurt the team.

Portland would have lost game 4 if Roy hadn't come back.

Just because he couldn't heroically save the team after that isn't all that disappointing to me.

Besides, who the fuck else was going to play. Before game 4 Bayless and Rudy were sucking piles and piles of dick. They seemed to feed off of Roy's return as much as LMA did.

Henry "Oden is the most uncordinated athlete I have ever seen." Abbot can feel free to never watch the Blazers again.

Would Portland have won Games 5 and 6 had Roy not been there? Probably not.

Would they have won Game 4 had Roy not been there? Probably not.

Disappointing is a player who is able to play well and does not. It is not a player who is unable to play well but tries to suck it up, even if he/she really can't.

Just a bunch of typical Blazer bashing, nothing to do with the Blazer Board Bashes we once had.

Personally, I find Mehmet Okur's performance to be even more disappointing than Roy's. I mean, after all, the guy didn't even play after his injury and he looked terribly unathletic even before he was hurt. The Jazz may even have won a game against the Lakers if Memo would have sucked it up and played. Terribly, terribly disappointing.

Jamal Crawford should be on at least one of those lists. He shot 36% for the playoffs and had a sub-14 PER. He was the very definintion of a second scorer who was wildly inconsistent in the playoffs.

I don't get why Rasheed is on anybody's list. He was terrible during the regular season. Why would anyone expect anything of him in the playoffs?

Bashing him because why?

He is right?

I do think he helped POR win game 4, not through his play per se, but his presence...

But he absolutely hurt the team in Game 5 & 6...and I agree, I am not sure threy would have won anyway...but that still doesn't diminish the fact that Roy was a complete shell of his former self and probably shouldn't have been out there....

I guess if you always have unreal expectations, you can expect to be disappointed all the time. Temper your expectations, and you have a much simpler life.

I agree with the general sentiment - but going into the season, "winning a 1st round series" hardly seemed like an unreal expectation.

Expectations have to be dynamic. Times change, and expectations have to change with them.

Let's say America is attacked by Russia, but most of our troops have the flu that day.

Should they stay out of it, or risk having you be disappointed in their performance?

Seemed very unlikely to me all year long, having dumped Sergio and then Steve and Travis, for 2 aging (1 unmotivated) short-timers who didn't fit our original rebuild plan at all.

Seemed absolutely ridiculous by playoff time.

Low expectations create more happiness in real life, but not for me in the predictions game this season. They just kept winning despite injuries.

So, the most pro-Blazer writer around is a moron? Thank you Mixum. :devilwink:

He hasn't really been pro Blazers ever since was hired by ESPN. Yes, he still mentions them and writes positive things, but he also writes randoms negative things just to prove he 'isn't a biased homer'. For instance his line about Portland fans wondering why Dante/Martell/Jerryd were in instead of Brandon. I'd like to know what site he was getting that 'majority' tally from because it sure wasn't here, realgm, oregonlive, or Blazersedge.

I believe we win that game 4 regardless of Roy playing or not playing. He provided a warm fuzzy feeling but his play was far from special, it was poor.

We lost the series in 6 with Roy coming back, do we lose if he stayed out? Probably, but there's a chance Bayless or Rudy could have finally steeped up. Despite Rudy's problems in the playoffs he was playing great in game 6, then McMillian put in Roy and the Suns went on a run that decided the game. Roy shot 30.3% from the field in the playoffs, that is horrendous; his defense was bad as well.

oh yeah, because that "example" is relevant to THIS discussion....

So I guess after last nights game that Brandon will drop down to 3rd after that performance Lebron turned in.

Incorrect. LMA got many clean looks at the hoop because Brandon was in the game.

The chance of Bayless or Rudy stepping up was far less then the chance that Brandon would get hot in one game. Mostly because Brandon has gotten hot before in the playoffs while Bayless and Rudy have never played well during the money season.

Perhaps he should get some salve for his vagina.

I have a real hard time buying the elbow bullshit line they are feeding us when it was just a couple of games ago, well after the injury occured, that Lebron dropped 24 points in a single quarter. That seems to have escaped many of these peoples minds.

Secondly I would point out, that most players are banged up this time of the season. If you aren't banged up, you are pretty fortunate.
