“Here’s what I’ll say. When four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal. We’re going to fix it,” Obama said per pool. “The government is a big operation and [at] any given time something screws up,” he also said, saying that he believes “you find out what’s broken and you fix it.”

52-45 Romney as per Gallup, and this quote isn't going to help Obama before Monday's debate.

The government is a big operation and [at] any given time something screws up,” he also said, saying that he believes “you find out what’s broken and you fix it

Seems like a good argument for smaller government.

still think Mitt missed so many openings..

should have thanked barry for showing up this time..

Jesus, it's almost like he wants to lose. He's smart enough not to be this callous.

no..he thinks he is smarter than everyone else..

He does, and believe me that arrogance shows through, but he's not a dumb guy. Yet, these are preposterous things to say, especially on a show that's going to throw him softballs.

He is very smart and shrewd. But his arrogance does show through. If he loses the election, that'll be his downfall.

I think the words you're looking for are "crafty" and "shifty".

Not optimal at all. He had to decide to still go to Vegas for a fundraiser, and then a party at Jay-Z's club, all the while sending out Susan Rice to blame it on some video that nobody saw nor cared about.

Can't wait until this clown is gone. He can still party with celebrities, because he's good at it, but let's let an actual adult with successful experience in both public and private life lead us for four years, after 20 years of Clinton/Dubya/Obama.

We are overly parsing the candidates' words. Sheesh.

Binders!

Sesame street!

Yuk it up, Barry. Maybe this idiot can host his own talk show soon?

Derrr herrr herrr. Let's go for laughs on The Daily Show just days before the election, and minimize deaths in Libya.

So much blatant disrespect in this thread for the President of this great country.

Interesting. I find the blatant disrespect in this thread to be by the President toward those who gave their lives for their country in Libya.

Well, maxiep, you are obviously wrong! I mean the man was on Jon Fucking Stewart's show!

BOW DOWN BEFORE TELEPROMPTER JESUS.

I don't understand all of the hullabaloo over the statement. Utilitarianism has helped many civilizations thrive... just look at Germany in the early 40's.

Like a bunch of 3rd graders dissing the teacher behind his back when he steps out of the classroom for a sec.

I'm getting the message from the OP that he thinks when four Americans get killed, it IS optimal. :dunno:

Stewart told the president, in regard to the administration's performance in the aftermath of the attacks, that "I would say and even you would admit it was not the optimal response - at least to the American people as far as all of us being on the same page."

"Here is what I will say, if four Americans get killed it is not optimal," the president responded. "And we are going to fix it, all of it. And what happens during the course of a presidency, you know the government is a big operation at any given time, something screws up and you make sure you find out what's broken and you fix it."

The president's "optimal" comment seemed to be a reference to Stewart's characterization of the response, since he used the same word. Some, however, have taken the comment to mean the president was saying the deaths themselves were "not optimal."

The president continued in the interview: "And you know whatever else I have done throughout the course of my presidency, one thing that I've been absolutely clear about is America's security comes first and the American people need to know exactly how I make decisions when it comes to war, peace, national security and protecting Americans. And they will continue to get that over the next four years of my presidency."

So what you're saying through that is, that if Jon Stewart had not put the words into his mouth that came off utilitarian, he would have used other language. Well, two questions:

A) For Jon Stewart, as one of the most liberal pundits on the face of the earth, working for a liberal entertainment channel, don't you think that was the most friendly way he could have phrased the question to Barack Obama?

B) Why is the President of the United States not smart enough to do something other that regurgitate his interviewer's language, instead of deciphering the sentiments of the question before giving an intelligent reply?

Germany wasn't utilitarian, they were socialist.

NATIONAL socialist.

Do you guys race to see who is first in this circle jerk?

I honestly can't make up my mind. Binders or optimal? Real grounds for a decision!

Why aren't you crying when the libs are going off about "sesame street" and "binders of women"?

Did someone start a thread just for the sesame street quote or binders of women? I don't remember them, but I agree they (the Sesame Street one in particular) were unnecessary if it happened.

The binders of women ramble did have some negative aspects to it, but the pervy take on it is a joke.
