I never was a Giambi Fan, at the time the Yankees signed him I was hoping they'd keep Tino and alternate him and Nick Johnson at 1st and DH. In hindsight I guess that probably not have worked out, Johnson turned out somewhat of a bust. I always liked Tino, classy dude, fine player, with me # 2 at first base behind Donnie Baseball but ahead of Chambliss and Moose Skowron.
I was overseas for most of Pepitones career with the Yankees. Read his book though and came away with the notion that his elevator stopped a few feet short of the top floor. Had a few conversations with his daughter, nice looking, good singer, but her elevator was a bit short as well. She told me all the stuff in her dads book was BS just put there to "spice" things up. The Yankees traded Skowron to the Dodgers to make room for Pepitone. We all remember the Dodgers and their former Yankees first baseman swept the Yankees in the '63 series.
