I hope this comes out. 48 years ago today....,

No posing, no bat flip. Just hit it & go around the bases.

...thanx, I never get tired of watching that. We used to try to copy Mick's HR trot.

Hard to believe it was 48 years ago today. I always wished he could have played longer as Mays did. Also hard to believe that hell be gone 20 years come August. Great memories.

Harmon Killebrew was one of the earlier guys I remember who would drop the bat, take a couple of steps taking a glance at the HR (and he knew when it was GONE) and go into his trot.

One of my favorite all time suggers...."the Killer"....god rest his soul.

...oddly enough, it was a little pop fly by a rookie named Willie Mays that caused Mantle to shred his knee in the '51 WS.

...it was DiMaggio last year and he was slowing down, so Stengel told Mick before the game to help cover for Joe in the OF...Mays hit a little pop up between Joe and Mick, Mantle was prepare to catch the ball but at the last minute DiMaggio called him off, Mantle tried to yield and caught his spikes in a drain and destroyed his knee.

Trivia question:
How many HRs did Mays hit in his three WS?

Vague hint- Mantle hit 18, and at a higher rate than his career AB/HR ratio.

Mays didn't hit any in his 3 world series & 70 ABs in only 20 games
Mantle hit his 18 WS home runs in 12 world series & 230 ABs in 65 WS games.
