History not kind for ruptured Achilles recovery

I think it's fine to talk about his contract. This is a message board for us to discuss any and all details about the team. We all hope for the best with Wes, think he deserves everything he'll get, and appreciate his heart as much as any player the team has ever had. It's sad shocking news and difficult for us all. Part of the grieving process is learning how this impacts every aspect of the team because this changes so much we took for granted.

There are worse things in this world than only getting a raise from 6 million to 9 million, instead of 12 million.

I'm just not thinking the money lost is as big a factor to Wes as everyone is making it out to be, I'd bet he'd trade all that money for a healthy Achilles straight up.

Getting a raise was yesterday. Getting a contract is now the subject. Six is really high for a one legged defender.

All the more reason to retain both Afflalo and Wes.

Wes will be a terrific backup.

And before you blast me: I must have seen hundreds of comments stating the same thing since he's been a Blazer.

Looks to me like his defense will take the biggest hit. As it has already been pointed out he isn't a real above the rim type of player but he does use his feet to defend. I am looking for Wes to continue to be a spot up three point shooter but no longer being able to defend the other teams best player. We knew the day was coming anyway so he might as well start getting used to it.
Wes has never been a great fast break type of player and i can count on one have how many times i can remember him really dunking the ball. The guy is the only player in the league that shoots a jumper without actually jumping. If ever there was a player with the qualities to make a great comeback from this type of injury it is Wesley Matthews!
That being said...Get well Wes.

I'd bet on Wes.

Give him a one year opt out and let him sign for his true value next summer.

Don't see anyone blasting you for that one. Right now AAA is the starter. He will be the starter next year i would guess. Wes won't be back to start the year. He will come in off the bench slowly at the beginning at best.

AAA will be the starter IF he opts in or we sign him in FA after he opts out, remember he has a player option this summer

I love you sly but fuck this thread. Wes said he use to do it for the doubters, but now he does it for the believers. I believe in wes. Hes going to beat the fuck out of this injury and beat the odds just like an undrafted scrub getting a huge nba pay day. This is Wesley mother fucking iron man matthews. HE WILL FIND A WAY

What's right is right. Think Spurs and Patty Mills here. Blazers need to take care of him and they will.

I'd bank on Wes and his odds any day.

I'm worried about his step back jumper move.

I'd sell him my achilles for $2mill.

Money and basketball are temporary things. Wes is one of the most genuine and awesome people we've had in recent years. He really is the new Jerome kersey. I hope he recovers for his sake and i hope he retires a blazer many years from now And never leaves rip city.
#win4Wes

This is what you call a true Blazer fan!

ZBo has made a career out of it..Wes is not the first by a long shot

Also had his operation in the 80's, in the Soviet Union. I'm sure they were using rusty hacksaws and vodka for the procedure.

Blazer Dr.: "Oooooh - vodka! How much do you drink and how much do pour over open wound?"

Not to take exception with your post, I have seen lots of people bantering back and forth about how this will effect the value of his next contract. I just dont understand the fixation..we as fans are not paying the tab, how ever million wes gets is not really going to have much bearing on cap space..fact is that I expect us to be way over in order to keep this team together, This is the Blazers in win mode, not last decades Clip show.

Wes is not Oden..Wes will earn every penny he gets

Of course fans are interested in money, because it affects the quality of players your team can attract. If this allows us to retain Matthews at a bargain price, we can keep both Matthews and Afflalo long term. And I think a healthy Afflalo + post injury Matthews is better than just having an uninjured Matthews.

I thought more guys would have sustained this injury. It's surprisingly few when you think about all the thousands of nba players and the millions of sharp cuts they've made on the court. And yeah....Portland falls victim yet again to another freaky injury.

I think you go hard after Middleton.

Make him #3 on your to-do list this summer after LMA/RoLo.

Yawn at the OP. None of those are good comparators to Wes. I am worryed a little, but not that much. I don't think anyone is going to offer Wes $9 Mil, including us.

I know you don't want to hear about Wes NOT coming back, but this guy speaks the truth. Middleton is a legit talent. Signing him would be a good move.

Thank you Sly Killington.
