This is why we have to be so careful to define what is a "right". In the Constitution we are said to have "inalienable" rights. Edmund Burke also referred to them as "natural" rights. These are rights we have simply for breathing. They belong to us and may not be infringed upon. However, there is a rush to declare other "rights" such as healthcare, education, a certain standard of living, etc. These are not natural rights or inalienable; they are rights given by the government. And what the government can give, the government can take away or may not be able to fulfill. In Greece, they simply overpromised. And to paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, it was going swimmingly until Greece ran out of other people's money. Now those "rights" have to be taken away or curtailed because there's no one to pay for them. Chaos and rioting ensues. This development is as predictable as they come and why we need to do what we can to avoid the same fate.
