And just think, they're just following your boy's master plan. In KP we still trust, right?

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Pritchard had his faults. Are you confusing me with another poster? I hated the Turkoglu offer last year, and I hate this Matthews offer if he signs.

If this is/was Pritchard's idea, he clearly has a problem IMO with his first FA offer in any given summer. Overpaying for mediocre players seems like a bad idea to me.

Matthews versus Raja Bell and Bruce Bowen - to make things interesting, I went with Raja and Bruce's 3rd year versus Wesley's rookie year.

He's not as good as Raja or Bruce defensively, but he's so much better than them offensively, it's not even funny. In other words, he's a pretty well-rounded player. I'm feeling better about him already.

Compare Bryant's advanced stats in the playoffs against Matthews versus his advanced stats versus Bowen and Bell. I also invite you to find a series in which Bryant had a Game Score of 20+ in each game against either of them.

I really think you are going overboard on your stats. Didn't Bowen play for SA? That has to factor in. SA was the best defensive team in the league. They also were one of the most deliberate teams on offense. (So less possessions for both teams) All these things (and much more) effect stats. You already said Utah was a bad defensive team, so wouldn't that effect his stats too. (No help)

We signed a back up SG for more money then he deserved. Welcome to free agency. If you want a good player, and Portland thinks he is a good player, then you have to over pay for restricted free agents. Otherwise the other team matches for sure.

This offer makes Outlaw's deal almost look like a bargain.

The only thing crazier would be for OOOOOOOTah to match; which they just might do after losing Boozer and Korver.

He started for the Jazz and played 37 mpg in the playoffs. Why would he want to come off of the bench behind Brandon Roy, and he had better not take minutes away from Batum and Bayless, who are both better players and younger than Matthews, who will be 24 years old when the season starts.

He might just want to get out of SLC.

Well, the quote from Matthews' agent in this thread says that Wesley expects to start on the team that he ultimately end up with after the summer. I don't see how he starts for Portland, even if Batum gets moved. 6'5" SFs don't start in the NBA, and if he is Roy's replacement if Roy is moved, good luck to him, because he'll need it.

This is crazy to me! Whose minutes is he gonna take? If this goes thru and we dump Rudy, we ar gonna be fucked in the 3pt department! Not excited by this at all. And to think people last year actually had the balls to say LA is overpaid, wait til you see this guy play!

Man, I know you work for the team, but try not to be such a homer

FG%
Rudy - .378
Wes - .483

3pt%
Rudy - .368
Wes - .382

Not really; I'd say Matthews is less awful contract-wise. It's $1 million less, front-loaded (but who cares about that except Utah?), for a player that shoots the three ball as well as Outlaw did in his best season (08-09), and shoots the 2-ball much better.

 Ka-zing!

Rudy is either a broken toy, or a whiney little diva. Either way, he is not going to provide much value to the team.

I agree with those who say the Blazers overpaid.....but Rudy and his "future" and/or his feelings are irrelevant to the discussion.

How good of a 3PT shooter is he really? I mean, sure he shoots 38%, but he only attempts 2 a game, and 2.9 per 36.

Great research Caravan and repped. Also since defense gets MUCH better with age that he's so close and 3 to 4 years younger (2 less seasons in the NBA) means this guy has real potential.

So, he's only a second year player this coming season, right? So does he play on our summer league team, if Utah doesn't match? He could be the best paid player in the league.

Everyone who is asking WHY would WM want to come backup Roy instead of start in Utah. MONEY. Imagine if you went undrafted. most undrafted players who find a spot never see a big deal and many don't even make it to their second season. Wes has a chance to be set for life. I know I would suck up the insult of coming off the bench for a chance to earn 34mil instead of 12mil or whatever was being offered. most players who get picky with where they will go either have already made lots of money or are being offered similar offers by many teams. But if PDX is the only team willing to shell out assloads of money, you go to PDX.

I guess not - didn't realize summer league starts tomorrow. It'll be about over by the time Utah's clock has expired.

Wow, someone with common sense. How odd! Repped.

I would love to get rid of Rudy for Matthews. The only problem I could see is Matthews started at SG for most of last year and I hope he wouldn't mind coming off the bench.

That, and it would be a huge downgrade.

Best basketball mind on this board has just spoken. Time to close this thread and move on to finding ways to lure S. Rodriguez from his Euro team.

I've also heard it several times from somewhat credible sources in a radio format (thus no link). Jason Quick said he's talked with Rudy's agent Andy Miller about it, and Kenny Vance reported that people he's talked to around the league made it pretty clear that Rudy has no intention of returning here. is that proof? No, but it's wild speculation by people completely out of the loop who have not had any direct conversation with Rudy that would in any way support their silly fiction.

Fixed.

Why would Rudy leave now that it's obvious Miller is pushing Nate out the door?

I'm sorry I cant sift through all the bitching in this thread, can someone please tell me the #'s all I could see on Realgm was he signed but terms were not disclosed.. yet I see people complaining about price.

Thanks.

The supposed price is 5 years, $34 million.

found it on twitter nevermind

thanks. Seems like a bit, but not sure why price would bother us, as we arent doing the paying, and its not like we are under the cap anyway lol.

thanks again.

"The agent even said Portland told him, "We may have overpaid, but if we're going to take a run we'll give our best shot."

That sounds like something you might say if you are hoping to get the Jazz to not match.

Comments on that article are pretty fun.

Not sure how they think they are going to make an offer we can't match if Oden is an RFA, though. Pretty sure Paul will still have more money than them next year.

If the Jazz offered Oden a max-ish contract, would we match? I don't know...

We'd have the choice. If we didn't think he was worth it, then of course we'd let him go.

How could Jazz fans ever be mad at the Blazers? WE GAVE THEM DERON WILLIAMS! Doesn't that make up for just about anything?

Also, with Roy's injury history, does one really think that at some point Matthews won't start?
