The developments in New Orleans on Monday had all the hallmarks of modern-day damage control: A rosy statement via Twitter, some positive spin in a media availability session that was noticeably devoid of actual information and apparent reasons for optimism that Chris Paul's desire to be traded will quiet down for a while.

In other words, the smokescreen formed exactly as planned after Paul met for 90 minutes with the Hornets' new basketball decision-making team in New Orleans. This is the united front being portrayed to the outside world. On the inside, little has changed: Yes, Paul wants to win, but realizes that for reasons beyond the control of new GM Dell Demps and new coach Monty Williams, it can't happen in New Orleans. And the organization itself has begun the inevitable process of exploring ways to make this end to everyone's satisfaction.

I must say... This drama is getting more tiring than Rudy F himself.

This part stood out...

The Hornets, meanwhile, have been looking at Orlando, Charlotte and New Jersey as potentially attractive trade partners once the firestorm settles down, according to one of the people with direct knowledge of the Hornets' strategy. Two other sources familiar with the situation confirmed prior discussions involving the Bobcats and Nets and said those talks are expected to advance in the coming days.

The Hornets are concentrating on Eastern Conference teams as trade partners in the event they decide it isn't feasible to enter the 2010-11 season with their franchise player wanting out. And despite Monday's optimistic spin, that is where things are headed, sources say.

No mention of Portland in the article. So we can probably cross the Blazers off the list.

You also forgot this part, which does not sound good for us.

Also, this guy still does not seem to think Portland is even on Paul's list.

At least two Eastern Conference executives were telling colleagues over the weekend that they believed they had credible offers in place if and when the Hornets decide to move forward with serious trade talks. One of those teams was the Knicks, who along with the Magic and Lakers were on Paul's original list of teams he'd like to be traded to, as CBSSports.com reported July 21.

I honestly would like to move on I think. It is tiring.

I would love to have CP3 but I agree and would be happy to just move on.

Yea why would they want to empower a Western Conference rival for years to come? If CP3 came here we would be on Top. Nobody wants that.

Does CP3 want that? If he does he should tell the Blazers he'd be fine playing with just B-Roy and Oden or just LMA and G.O. because it looks like were going to have to give up one of our future all stars to even have a chance. .

Perhaps because we offer a nicer package than Orlando, Charlotte and New Jersey? In any case, I hope we look to move somewhere else in trade talks. This stuff is draining.

yeah because an article doesn't even mention us, that must mean that we all of a sudden don't have the best package to offer...

Maybe, but you have to think it holds some merit. To not even be mentioned once anywhere seems like our chances, if any, are lower.

Yep. As predicted by many on here including me.

That was my take as well but I'm biased. It is true that Paul doesn't have leverage now other then the threat of even greater leverage later ie the walk away. IMO it would be better for the Hornets to trade now while they DO have leverage and the ability to say no. In my experience less, not more is available atthe deadline as most teams have done as other posters suggested and traded assets for plan B.

Conclusion, this is a smokescreen and they may initially say no trade as a united front to drive up value. If something doesn't happen during the height of Hornet negotiating power then look for CP3 to leak more discontented material to the media. IMO the meeting Monday is to get CP3 to help them maximize value. Hell we were telling brother Wendell we wouldn't part with Batum that might have horrified NOH management.

Now we wait for leaks.

Hopefully the article is incorrect, though, and Hornets are willing to at least discuss moving Paul to the western conference, if not, we stand no chance.

This guy didn't report Portland before either. Now Broussard (the guy who called LeBron's landing and who has impeccable sources) said Portland. Fuck CBS News. It's all about the most attractive package.

You're overly invested in this emotionally. Sort of like me and Oden. ;) Take a step back, take off the Ninja suit, put some pants on, and take off your clown mask. At least that's what I do whenever I get too close to a Sport's news story.

Technically, he was even flipping always saying he will stay in Cleveland, now it is Miami, nope Cleveland, Bulls have a shot now, etc. It was not until the night before he stood by Miami. He may not be as credible as you think. Screaming A. Smith was the only one to get it right.

Only time will tell. I can see them wanting to send him East, but for what?

Run through that list of teams provided and show me a team that has a package nearly as good. Only NYK is even close, does their being in the Eastern Conference trump the talent and relief edge we have? We'll see.

Magic in a three way where Jameer goes to a team that needs a PG. That seems like the best way to go for the Hornets IMO. Paul will definitley be pissed going to Bobcats and Nets, but we will see.

I honestly don't see a three-way trade involving anyone that nets Paul unless it's a Western Conference team aiding a trade of Paul to the East or vice versa like the Boston trade B-Roy posted from another forum. That I could see. Really though three or more team trades are rare for a reason. Hence, if you look at what assets are available on each team you will see it's between Portland and NYK. At least that's my belief. Also I dont' see the Bobcats getting Paul he would be a one year rental and out after the lock out.

Magic have garbage outside the Carter expiring and our JPEC/AMEC package is better due to Joel's insurance. Plus we can actually add young talent. It's the Knicks I worry about.

There are just too many unknowns for any of us to get too worked up about Chris Paul, IMO.

We don't know much of what CP3 wants. We don't know what the Hornets want. We don't know what other teams would be willing to offer. We don't know what the Blazers would be willing to offer.

We could know 75% of those things and still have insufficient information to make a proper analysis.

I'm not saying we should shut up about this, but that getting too upset or invested in every hourly report from varyious news sources seems like a quick path to madness.

You are pretty much right. However, I would like to know a true list of teams Chris Paul prefers to go to, because there are different reports on the issue.

What's the point of being a fan if you can't get worked up over things that you have no control over?

True, and we don't even know the order of importance of those things. I feel like what Chris Paul wants probably rates pretty low - but it could be NO is worried about souring free agents on the Hornets.

Well if we can't get him I do hope he is traded to the East. I posted that before so in that respect I can undertand their thinking. It would be nice if we could get CP3 though I know I'm the only one that thinks so. :)

Yeah I think you're pretty much all alone on that one mgb. Chris Paul? Pffffffffttttt....wake me up when we're discussing a real Point Guard.

Seems more and more that the Western Conference looks to be the cream puff conference for the coming decade, just like the East was for much of the last decade. So few of the major young stars are on Western teams....if Paul moves to a team that's capable of building around him in the East, yikes.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that all this "only trade to an east coast team" etc etc etc is just to squeeze something out of the Blazers. I have a feeling that we're trying to lowball and they want Oden, or maybe they want us to take back more. I'm not sure. I just think this is all posturing.

Oden sure + filler. No to Oden + Batum. If CP3 is injured it's not worth it. If Oden is injured we'd still have Batum splitting our injury concerns.

Also if Paul doesn't come to Portland I would rather he went East. Let them beat each other up and injure themselves from strenuous competition constantly. The fresher we are when we face LAL the better. Also chalk up 3 more wins if Paul goes East and at most 2 more losses. If we don't get him send him East. I'm thrilled at the gutting of non-Blazers Western Conference.
