The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward Cedric Simmons from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for guard David Wesley, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Hornets gave up on Simmons so easy, Thorn must be pissed!!!</p>

Chandler and West log a lot of minutes and they want to involve Hilton more, just signed Ely, and with Wright possibly seeing time at the 4 there's not much room for Simmons. Chandler and Peja have massive deals and Paul is in for a big payday so they're probably trying to trim the fat now.</p>

I have a different take...</p>

I think the Hornets and Cavs are making a series of deals that will end up with the Hornets and Cavs doing a sign and trade involving Sasha Pavlovic.</p>

Here's what has already happened...</p>

--Cavs sign Devin Brown, Hornet guard...and Sasha Pavlovic insurance/replacement.</p>

--Cavs trade David Wesley, a 37 year old combo guard with a contract that is only partially guaranteed for Cedric Simmons, a raw 21 year old 6'10" PF with potential.</p>

Both deals are lopsided toward the Cavs...so what is the next move...the one that evens it all out?</p>

--Cavs and Hornets work a sign and trade in which Sasha Pavlovic goes to New Orleans to play with fellow Serb and former teammate Peja Stojakovic. In return, some bad contract goes the other way (Bobby Jackson?) permitting Hornets to pay Pavlovic what he wants.</p>

I don't know why this would have to done in this manner. BYC? TE? Just some speculation.</p>

The only way this could possibly make sense is if it cost the Hornets a lot less to buy out wesley than it would have cost to waive Simmons. It seems like it was purely a money-saving move--but I just can't believe that they couldn't at least get a future draft pick out of it. Talk about cheap.</p>

Cedric was pretty good at NC State. I liked his game a lot.</p>

Just another example of how hard it is to find a competent big man outside the lottery (Cedric may have been the last lottery pick or the first non-lottery pick, I don't remember). The Nets would have jumped at a chance to draft this guy; instead they ended up with Josh Boone. Now Cedric is worth less than the rookie scale and gets kicked tot he curb. I still think that Boone will be a decent player for the nets when all is said and done. However, his career will flop once he leaves or is traded from the Nets.</p>

Actually now that you mention it, I can't think of a player that left the Nets and did particularly well.</p>

Some would say that Zo' did better, but despite coming back from injuries he's become the new 'poster' boy and has been making Shawn Bradley look pretty good as of late.</p>

Yea, well we don't have too much to offer. Max we got to offer doesn't sniff what Varejao wants. If Varejao takes what we got, Cleveland matches and we just helped the Cavs save some cash.</p>

Haha you know what I thought about Mutumbo before I made my post. I wouldn't say he's had a significantly better impact in Houston that he's had in NJ. At least not an impact that would deserve a second thought.</p>
