currently the 6th best team in the nba, according to himself

http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerrankings

Highly skewed by a few huge blowouts over some crappy teams, including the most recent 40-point win over the Spurs' JV squad.

We have played an exactly average schedule (.500 strength of schedule) with a slightly above average record (.529). To me, 14th out of 30 sounds closer to reality than 6th of 30.

right, but this is a hollinger thread, not to be affiliated with the very threads of reality

Duly noted. Hollinger is always revising his formulas as better data becomes available. I suspect he will come up with some way to de-emphasize margin of victory over teams with really shitty records. A 30-point win over Charlotte or Sacramento shouldn't really move a team up that much in his rankings, especially when that same team ends up being down by 30 in the first quarter against the Lakers. It's pretty obvious to me that the latter is a much better predictor of future playoff succedss than the former.

i think his opinion is that if we are beating teams by 40+ so should everyone else, but yes, it seems flawed

At some point, all it really proves is our scrubs are better than your scrubs. IMHO, a 40-point win over Charlotte shouldn't improve your power ranking more than a 2 point win over a top 10 team, or even any more than a 20-point win over that same Charlotte team. Running up the score against a crappy team doesn't really prove anything. Yeah, it's great to see a guy like Elliot Williams go off on the Spurs third stringers, but is shit like that really enough to declare us the 6th best team in the entire league?
