BTW, when I checked this morning, I noticed that ATL has passed POR for 2nd in Hollinger's Power Rankings - even though neither team played yesterday.
It's all about SOS. So, how well your previous opponents do impacts your RAT. As a general example, that early season loss to SAC hurts us now more than then. SAC was off to a good start, so at the time, that was a loss to a quality opponent. With Boogie out, the firing of their coach and a return to their traditional losing ways, SAC can no longer be considered a "quality" opponent and that hurts our overall SOS.
Specifically, the MEM loss to CLE was probably what tipped the RAT in ATL's favor last night. Getting beat by 14 in CLE, following getting beaten by at home by CHI has weakened MEM's RAT and hurt our SOS. ALT hasn't played MEM, so their SOS didn't take the same hit ours did when MEM lost to CLE.
Those are just a couple examples. SOS is adjusted daily. So, as the teams you've previously played go hot and cold, it impacts your SOS, even on your off days.
