Possibility: A girl has to be hospitalized because she has chemical burns on her face, which was the result of doing something illegal (like tinkering in a meth lab). The doctors have to know how it happened, so she makes up a story to cover her ass, "A stranger did this!" She's apparently not very smart and gets found out, and now she has to make up another story to cover her ass, "I did it on purpose!" and claims mental instability.

I'm not saying that's necessarily it, but it's hard for me to believe someone would put a chemical burn on their own face on purpose. I think she was probably doing something illegal.

It happened in broad daylight at a Vancouver park. Highly unlikely a meth lab exploded in her face and she drove to the park and said someone threw acid in her face.
