I think your thread isn't getting much response as the story was pretty ridiculous at face value.
There may or may not be "studies", but I can tell you that side effects are well documented. And they can be deadly. The problem with steroids (and many other drugs) is that the government (or other entity) cannot do studies as it places people at risk. So that allows the steroid users to coo about "never been a study" and somehow it justifies the open use/abuse of it. That's a pretty lame line of thinking- well, unless you're on steroids, I suppose. So the reporting was inherently false- not really honest. With respect to that entertainment segment, Gumble is a giant loser in the business and I suspect it was done so he could be 'controversial' and maybe boost a sagging career.
Back to steroids... No one doubts that it is a highly effective medicine if used properly or under controlled circumstances. Just like any medicine. But also, just like any under the counter medicine, it has serious side effects that are well documented. Not that everyone who takes steroids will have limbs fall off... but that does not lessen the risk of those side effects.
