Dude, these are different things. Even an idiot like me knows not to mess with the Achilles. There are some things that require greater caution, which is is obviously in this case.

I heard the interview with Stotts saying that Rodney had a sore Achilles. Then (I was at a birthday and couldn't watch but was looking at the score on my phone) my brother says, "Rodney got injured." And what do you think I said? I'll tell you: "His Achilles?!?" Yeah. Not because I'm smart (we've established I'm an idiot) but because it was fucking foreshadowed!

Anyhow, I agree with you in general about injuries and stuff. Just not this one. I'd call this gross negligence.

What if he played the whole game and injured in the next game? Would that have been negligent. He showed no signs of having an issue during the game.

As soon as I saw Rodney’s injury. I turned off the TV, called an Uber and went to a bar and drink the whole night. I give up, this season sucks. 3 of 5 of our starters are out. Hopefully CJ and Dame can stay healthy. I don’t know a player that came back strong after an Achilles injury. Get well soon RODNEY!

Yep. There are recommended treatments physicians would give their patients in regard to a sore achilles tendon. It's not rocket science. Physicians most often prescribe rest and/or stretching and strengthening exercises.

What if?!? Why talk in hypotheticals when we will never know? And why won't we ever know? Negligence.

And see, we noticed different things last night. You saw no sign of him having issues during the game, and I saw him hobble off with a torn Achilles.

But you didn't see him hobbling around on the court before the injury. None of us are doctors and none of us have seen the xrays, mri or any other tests that were done or what Hod was saying to the trainers or the doctors.

It's not Rodney's job to decide; that's the job of the training and medical staff.

and what makes you think the doctors didn't do everything in evaluating it as they obviously cleared him to play? It is also feedback from the patient that helps them evaluate any kind of injury and to what extent it might be. It comes down to the same ole story, shit happens.

The point is: not all shit has to happen.

My point would be....BRoy would've never played an NBA game if teams were worried about his knees. We could've rested Rodney for a month and he could come out and have the exact same thing happen..it's all speculation.

To further your comparison to the 2014-15 season wasn't CJ injured (hand maybe???) and missed several games that season too?
Cj missed a season and a half I think with foot injuries..had the problem in college too if I remember correctly

He came back from that and then injured his hand or finger a few weeks into the season just when it looked like he was ready to contribute a little more.

More Hoard. More Gary Trent please. PLEASE to Tolliver and Mario.

Move Melo to SF

Trade for Love

Totally agree with this.

Dame needs more good veterans like Anthony around, not kids that are 9 years away from their prime like Zach, Ant, Nas, and Skal who are still getting the basics of the game down.

If we don’t trade our young players and just let Lillard’s prime be wasted developing them we are making the dumbest mistake. We will never have another player like Lillard.

The point is: not all shit has to happen.

Nobody said shit has to happen, but the fact is, shit does happen. Blazers had been relatively injury free for several seasons until Nurk went down and then we dodged a bullet with McCollums knee injury last year but was able to come back and be very productive in the post season. Same staff for the most part before those injuries.

I don't want Portland to become the Brookyln Nets west. that team with lots of stars was supposed to vie for a title and they ended up being horrible.
Stocking up on veterans that don't play defense could end up with the same team we have now, except with bad contracts.

You could see the team was devastated when he went down. I'm not saying they would've won with him in the game, but you could just tell it was a death blow.

I hope it means more minutes for Little (silver lining), but I suspect it means Tolliver and Mario play more.

you guys are sleeping on Mario. He’s talented and just needs time to adjust. He’s playing in a different league, in a different country, under a completely different offensive style.

I used to think he had a chance, but now I think he doesn't have the inner confidence or the smoothness or quickness to be an NBA rotational player.

Rodney made it clear he was ok to play....there's no scapegoat here....it's just a terrible injury for any player it happens to. Same when Wes had it happen. These guys are paid well to play. I've been injured badly playing sports and felt good enough to play tennis that day ...tore my meniscus...took two years to get back to normal. At least Rodney has a medical team in place to cover his costs...mine was out of pocket

Popovich is an overrated egomaniac, but The one area where Popovich actually has a clue is he realizes the regular season is meaningless. He would have sat Hood 100%. You don’t fuck around with Achilles pain for a regular season game.

Phil Jackson understood this well and he never played Shaq with even minor injuries. Shaq was durable and not significantly injured throughout his Laker career, then he left and played for a Maniac like Pat Riley and his career was effectively over within 2 years.

you should always play it safe. The players are not paid to play, they are paid to WIN. Winning requires health. Health is THE top priority, especially in the damn regular season. the blazers always over expend themselves in the regular season!

we disagree...Pop's had plenty of injuries over the years..Robinson, Sean Elliot....it's all good...I fully expected a lot of people to look for a scapegoat with Rodney's injury. It's Rodney's job to stay healthy and let the staff know he's unable to play...he didn't do that this game. Doctors miss things....it's a sad situation but in my view not cause for a blemish on our training staff. Some here think it is, I don't

Fuck dude, I like you, but you're driving me a little cuckoo on this. The staff can be diligent and awesome 99.9% of the time and still have fucked up. I'm not saying fire anyone or even chastise anyone, I'm saying the protocol for dealing with Achilles issues is obviously flawed. This is a devastating injury. Even a hint of Achilles fuckedupness should be taken very seriously. Maybe Rodney's injury will change that.

I guess to me the truth is most of us (maybe none of us) have the real "inside scoop" on how bad his "soreness was", on what the training stuff did, or didn't do, if they missed signs they shouldn't have. It's possible they had a case of negligence in doing their job. I know that having him leave a game early cause of soreness there and then coming back to play the next game and it rupturing sure doesn't look good, but there are enough unknowns that were all going to be left to our own devices to figure out what we think. I get why people are saying hey the training staff screwed up here, they very well could have, but I don't know.

what do you want the blazers to become? What is the realistic alternative?

we have Zach, Ant, Nas and Skal as talented young players and a few draft picks... so what? They aren’t enough to contend in the future. lets be real. The blazers can never attract free agents by virtue of being in rainy Portland 400 miles away from the next opponent. Getting Whiteside and Anthony was pure luck due to their terrible situations.

Lillard is still our best chance to contend for a ring and the only way we can win a ring with him is dumping our young talent.

And Trent is allergic to passing just like CJ ! The similarities are everywhere !

It's his 5th year in the NBA ffs. Do you think he will have adjusted by 2040 ?

yeah, let's trade our good young guys with upside and keep our shitty veterans like Bazemore and Tolliver. That way we will be sure to not win now nor in the future

Sorry buddy. It's just how I see it and you see it differently. Nothing can be done to change it now and injuries will always be part of the game no matter how cautious the teams are. All we can do is move on and hope for the best for Hood. I'm just not wired to get all worked up over something I know little about or qualified to make a judgement. No one in this forum is that I know of.

I watched many excellent passes by McCollum last night and is again the second leading assist man as a secondary ball handler for the team. Nobody has seen enough of Trent in quality minutes to make the assessment on him either.
