Hookers: recommend one that is cheap and good.

I don't know much about them. I'm thinking something between 37"-42"....I was thinking of a 46" but that's just too freaking big for my small apartment.

I'll primarily be watching basketball and don't want to spend a lot of money on one....I'm thinking of a Sony Bravia S-Series, at the Sony Store they're only like $599 for the 40" and $799 for the 46" (that 46" would be sick in my studio apartment though but I don't think there's any way it'll fit in my car).

Costco is probably the other place I'll look....leaning towards Sony, Samsung or LG as I hear good things.

anyone have particular recommendations? I'll probalby buy a PS3 so I can play blue-rays on it. and I guess I'll have to get DirectTV HD too....we'll see..don't want to spend a lot of time on it though.

Sony's are the best imo, but they definitely aren't the cheapest. You could probably save money with a Visio or Panasonic. Check the prices at Video Only too.

oh, i'm in LA now. I'll probably end up with Sony 40" though...I've had good experiences with their TVs throughout my life. If I can find someone who will deliver a TV, maybe I'll get the 46".

Vizio's are good on the cheap side, the picture quality is still really good, my sister just bough a 40 inch 1080p for 499, which is a fenomenal price

Copped a Sharp Aquos last summer. Love it. I had one small problem with the power supply and Sharp sent a tech to my house to fix it, then extended my warranty an extra three months for free. Got mine at Costco.

Yeah. I heard a few years ago a bunch of the Vizio's just straight up bunked out on people right out side the warranty.

You're right. They do. Even if the manufacturer doesn't. In my case though, I called Sharp, got a friendly woman on the phone who resides in this country who was very helpful. Warranties are important with expensive shit like tv's.

As someone who has worked there they treat their employees really well also (pay well, good benefits, etc.). I buy as much as I can there. However, be warned, electronics returns aren't what they used to be. You now have 90 days to return TVs, cameras, computers, and mp3 players. After that, you have to go through the manufacturer with problems (they do add a second year of manufacturer's coverage for free). Too many people were abusing the return policy (I saw it first hand everyday) and it was changed.

I have a Vizio 42" I'm happy with. If I had it to do over again I would get Plasma though. It's better for sports and other things with a lot of movement.

This Panasonic seems like a pretty good deal.

I have a Sumsung 42" Plasma...great tv.

I've heard that 240hz in the way to go for Sports. I have 120 and it's not that big of deal. Little bit of ghosting.

Sears has a Panasonic 42" plasma, 1080p, 600hz subfield for $649 today. Take an extra 5% off that instantly, if you don't do financing.

I would look at a plasma. Plasma is a better screen for sports because it handles fast movement better than LCD screens. Check out this chart, it will help you find the screen size that is best for you. If I remember correctly sports are recorded in 720p.

There is no such thing as too large a t.v. Let it cover the wall.

If you're looking for cheap, stay away from Samsungs and Sonys. Those are the highest quality HDTVs out there, but you're also gonna pay for it (money-wise).

I'd echo what some other posters have said. Costco is a good place, as is Frys usually...and Slickdeals often posts outstanding TV bargains.

everybody has a different opinion when it come to TVs. All I know is that I bought the cheapest TV I could find 5 years ago and the thing still works like new, no problems ever. It's not even a brand name TV.

CES is this week, then football...i recall many crazy deals around this time...well see what's up. I'd like to just go into Sears and get the TV..maybe I'll hit up Southcoast as I have that gift card there.

I got a 46'' Vizio for our bedroom and I'm happy with it. Picture probably isnt as good as the more expensive TV's, but its definitly good enough for me considering I only watch it for an hour or so before I crash for the night.

Get an LCD instead of a Plasma. Nobody's going to be making Plasmas pretty soon.

LG LCD tvs. They seem to get really high ratings (www.vanns.com) and when we compared the LG to a Sony the LG had a more natural coloring in the red spectrum compared to the Sony. We got our 36" LG HD (5 stars from vans) from http://www.videoonly.com/index.htm It was still $100 cheaper than Best buy for the same TV in 2007. The sales staff in Clackamus was very helpful. I would suggest that store as a comparison to tvs you are looking at.
