The one answer that stood out to me was this one:

HW: Kevin, we look at this team on paper – the starting line-up, the second unit – and the first thing that jumps out at me is, these guys are going to run. Yet, looking at the numbers last year, Portland struggled on the break. Will that change this season?

KP: Now, you are getting into coaching. And Nate (McMillan) and I have talked about this, but he feels like we can get out and run but I don't want to answer for him.

I read this as KP telling Nate he wants to run more and Nate still wanting to slow it down. This difference to me is the one that could really come to a head between these two.

I've said it before, but I will believe that Nate has become a coach that allows his team to run after I see it.

The guy just doesn't let go of the reins... I think it makes him feel better about the way the defense is operating if the score is low.

I'm still of the mindset that this team has been playing on "training wheels" (so to speak) for the past couple of seasons; if the team had run last year without first getting the fundamentals of passing, and learning to control the half-court, I'm sure they could have scored more points, but I'd be willing to bet that they'd likely have lost about 4 or 5 more games to boot.

I guess this is the year if we find out if Greg's outlet passes, after forcing misses or blocking shots, leads to guys leaking out and streaking down the court for easy buckets -- on paper they certainly seem to have the horses to get it done.

Nate's offensive style is not conducive to running. He runs a low-risk system that emphasizes fundamental screen and roll/screen and pop or post-up, back-to-the basket offense. Free flow and moving without the basketball are not parts of Nate's offensive system, and both of those are key parts of fast breaks.

Don't even get me started. What I wouldn't give for a return of Adelman. I actually hoped we would chuck Nate and hire Rick when he came available. He was a good coach when he was here, but he's a great coach now. Adelman is really one of the most underrated coaches in the league, if not the most.

I think you are right. I believe is was there last year also. If thinks do not go well this season
it will likely be the point that starts the tear.
