The 17-year-old nephew of soccer star Hope Solo described a frightening and escalating family fight early Saturday morning that resulted in Solo’s arrest on domestic violence assault charges.

The teenager’s statement was released in court documents Monday as Solo entered a not-guilty plea to the two gross misdemeanor charges during arraignment in a Kirkland, Wash., Municipal Court and was released on her own recognizance. Solo, who is due back in court Aug. 11, also was ordered to stay away from her nephew and half-sister and to refrain from using alcohol. She has, through her attorney, said she is innocent.

Problems began Saturday evening, court documents indicate that the nephew told police, when Solo’s husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, angered her by refusing to take her to the airport. She was drinking wine at a family gathering and became increasingly angry with her nephew as they talked. In court documents, according to the Seattle Times’ Christine Clarridge:

Don't think she was suspended and definitely has not received the negative publicity a male athlete would get when charged with domestic violence.
