Obviously the reason they hired him to do Lord of the Rings.
(I saw it in a little theater in LA in the 90s. Bliss.)

Yep. I haven't watched it either. Watching horror movies is not my idea of fun.

All of Landis's movies are shit EXCEPT FOR THIS MASTERPIECE. So few movies are both funny and terrifying (and don't Shaun of the Dead or Evil Dead 2 me - those are just funny).

I would have to say that the only really scary ghost story I've ever seen on film was a Japanese movie called The Grudge.
