OT How bout them Mariners

To be fair the pitchers are so much faster. They are having to think about a 100 mph fastball with arm side run with a 84 mph sinker that goes to the back foot. And its thrown at any count. They need to be as compact as possible and have an economy of movement. Gone are the days of the Julio Franco, Craig counsell, Edgar like stances. The most youre gonna get is a timed toe tap.
I think that is a big part of and I think most of these kids get taught the same basic swing from when they are kids being jammed into baseball academies that pour over the analytics and just pump out the same generic swing ... they aren't learning in the streets just playing any more. It just sucks that that part of the game has basically disappeared though there are a few still hanging on like Giancarlo Stanton.

Gut says Gilbert but baseball is such a funny game where a guy that has obvious talent like Flaherty can put it together for 5 innings and look like a stud. Massive game tonight!

Massive game TODAY.
It's so dumb they have a playoff game at 1:00 on a weekday.
Not even the WNBA is stupid enough to do that shit.

Interesting approaches by the two networks, yesterday Turner went with a 5pm/8pm (central time zone) start times instead of Fox going with 3/7 today. Agreed that a 1pm local start time is crazy, just stagger the games already!

No Nayls today but he probably is having a kid and his mind elsewhere. Ms haven’t said much so maybe there are complications? So that leaves Rayley at first . Need to get some production from a few other bats today.

I heard Suarez is going to get some run at first and Williamson might be back in the lineup.

I saw a guy with a stance where his front foot is at the far left of the batters box... but I cant remember who he was. Had a huge leg kick too. Hit a homerun when I watched lol

Was it Tony Bautista?

No... current player. It literally happened yesterday or the day before lol
Hey baseball nerd, I asked a question… Don’t make me Google it.

Do they ever postpone playoff games for rain? What happens? They play back to back to back games? What if it rains the whole week? Why don’t they ever play baseball in the rain? Is it because the rain will hit the ball and prevent home runs and stuff?

They can postpone playoff games for rain but it's pretty rare (last one I can remember was 2017 between Nationals and Cubs but probably because I'm a massive Cubs fan). Easiest thing to do is get rid of travel day between games 4 & 5 but don't think they've ever had it where the rain was so bad for a week that they couldn't play. Reason they don't play in the rain is you've got a hard baseball traveling 100 MPH at another human being, even in the best circumstances you can lose grip of the ball, but add in water and it becomes even more tenuous. Hope that helped answer your question without having to google.

Flaherty was awful this year. But pitched good in his start vs Cleveland. Gilbert pitched his best toward the end of the season
Flaherty had an awful record 8-15, but he was still slightly above average and had 10.5 k/9 with an ok ERA ... plus he has the stuff to be great on any one night as he's shown before. Don't think this one is a walk in the park by any means, but then again no game in October should be taken for granted, everyone is good at this point.

Mariners are on FS1 now, but it will move to FS2 once the Yankees vs Blue Jays game starts 5:05.

Any game can get postponed, period.
