The sports gambling industry posted a $13.7 billion profit in 2024. If you are currently up. Stop now while you are ahead.
Teaching in a HS and I have a few students that are into one of the DFS and I've tried to explain to them how they will lose $$$ in the long run, how parlays are the worst bet you can make and ask them why do they think so many of these DFS websites have sprung up in the past few years. Their response is the same one every gambler makes, yea but sir I'm smarter than they are and will win. It's crazy how the sports gambling world has their hooks in these kids before they are even 18. I enjoy tossing some fun money down on bets from time to time and I have an account with one of those sites that I probably visit once every two months, but it scares me to see kids that come from very little means, wasting what they do have on these sites.

Man my son is 23 and daughter 20…… I think the last thing I’ve gambled on was in 2000. Once I realized how expensive kids are, I was OUT!

Shit I don’t even do the SuperBowl numbers at the work parties!

Ten plus years on this site and 2025 is the year you finally say something nice about baseball. As noted before, you are such a troll. But damn, you're so good at it. You almost had me believing it was actually Bobo you were calling a Band Wagon Fan.....keep up the great work!!

Wait? I distinctly remember a bet made since 2000 that you made. And subsequently were accused of NOT paying.

I have betted on the Blazers. Usually a one time bet at a sports book.

Betting on the Blazers is a no brainer. 1st game back from a road trip. Automatic loss.

It wasnt money I could afford to lose so it was easy. Im not a big sports better, never have been. Ill usually put 20 on the site, then do 2 or 3 parlays that could hit big and if I win, it all goes back in my bank account.

Yep. I have a gambling addiction but I have it so much more under control now, and it hit me at 20. This was the early 2000s, where none of this was a thing. I cant imagine the long term ruin this is going to have... where my fix came in driving for an hour, playing for hours, then going home. Whereas now the addiction can happen on the same advice you use to do banking.

Why not? My dad did SuperBowl numbers when I was a teen. He said if we won anything he would give me the money to spend at the local card shop. I loved watching the game with him and following that. Even made it to the card shop a couple times.

It's crazy to me to think it's right at anyones finger tips now. Growing up in the 'Couve we would make the 25 minute drive up to La Center for the card rooms to play blackjack and poker. The first time we went up, me and a couple buddies were 18, sitting at the table and everyone was congratulating 'Joe' (no idea what his name actually was 25 years later) who was sitting next to us. We start talking and turns out his wife had given birth to 1st child earlier that day and just hours later he's in a depressing card room in La Center, WA.

Bunch of Vegas casinos and restaurants are doing a big 5 day sale because numbers are down going to the city. The sportsbooks there are dead because you can do it all from your phone at this point. The hotels are over priced, along with charging for every little thing, while jacking up the table minimums and making the odds even worse for the gambler (6/5 on BJ, a Triple 0 on roulette) and taking away even more of the illusion that you can beat the house.

Growing up and doing SB numbers for $1, maybe $10 a square wasn't bad. There are people down here that are running squares from $650 to $1k a square and they sell out of spots, and/or have multiple pages. For one family it's their entire business as they take about 30% off the top.

I only like sports betting for NFL games. It adds some excitement to the day. I always only bet Max up to $20. Seem to do ok because I always at least break even so far overall.

I question your Mariner Fandom. You root for the guy to hit a home run that is likely to win the MVP over your very own Cal? Which will be total bullshit?!?

How do you sleep at night?

I made the bet 7 months ago, and cal had 10 games with multi home run games before last night! So there was a 15% chance it was going to happen for the 11th time (tying an MLB record)

Yep! La center was where I played too. Theres a chance you and I played poker together if it was early 2000s to about 2006.

But its so dangerous now. Its so easy to say "one more bet." And two clicks its placed.

I never went. I had friends that did. I went a couple times to the greyhound parks in Wood Village before they closed in like 2004 or 2005. That was fun.
