How do you feel about Immigration?

It blows my mind the difference in attitudes towards immigration in the States compared to Canada.</p>

Up here most recognize that immigration is vital and directly attached to our ability to expand and thus prosper as a nation. Mind you immigrates face far to many hurdles in trying to work and stay in Canada but point blank, we don't have enough construction workers. Or factory workers or doctors or just about anything that doesn't have to do with media or computers.</p>

I don't live in the States so I receive a weird perspective on what Americans think about the issue. Some people feel so against it and I don't understand. When these people have kids in your country will their kids not be American? I don't think it's a stereotype and I could probably find a stat to back it up when I say that latinos are one of a few groups of people who are more than replacing themselves. Is that the problem? Is the fear that in 50 years America could look less white?</p>

Immigration laws here have been historically used to discriminate against people based on race. I see no difference now. People were irritated with every group of immigrants, be they Italian, Irish, or Asian (or Mormon for that matter). I'm not sure that skin color is the deciding factor, but it sure doesn't help. </p>

With all the immigrants we have, legal or not, we prosper, and I don't think that's ever going to change. We have a wealth of natural resources, from forests to rivers to gold and silver - not to mention the freedoms to invent.</p>

I have zero issue with us taking in everyone who wants to be here. As far as I'm concerned, they're coming here for all the right reasons.</p>

It doesn't really anger me at all.. I definately understand the need to secure the borders, but I will never get the pure rage of some people.
