The Pelicans are 6-18. With that roster, I can't imagine any competent coach having them at less than .500. Gentry has to have a noose tightening around his neck...and Monty Williams has to be enjoying this.
 
BRING MONTY BACK always liked the guy great coach I have no idea why Gentry has another head coaching job when was he ever successful as a head coach?
 
Didn't they have a huge rash of injuries early on?

Yes, they did. Tyreke Evans was out early in the season, Holiday has been on restricted minutes, Pondexter missed significant time as well.
 
Their defense is miserable. Given AD's talent, they should not be that pitiful. Our guys were just getting whatever they wanted in the paint

AD is overrated as a rim protector. Players have always shot around 50% at the rim with him in the vicinity (3 feet I think?).. So basically he often doesn't make guys alter shots, he just blocks a few no one else could. AD is becoming one of the most overrated players in the league..

Um no, AD is rated fine as is. Think it has more to do with the fact that their guards are all matadors on the perimeter, and their system is garbage.
 
Steve Kerr credits Gentry with winning the championship last season..going to New Orleans from Golden State is not going to carry over that kind of success immediately. Stotts didn't win much his first season here but both he and Gentry are good coaches. New Orleans has had a lot of early setbacks

So you think he's the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league? And just because there's more drives to the bucket doesnt mean that teams will shoot a higher percentage at the rim with him defending. Watch him. He doesnt move in front of guys.. It's either an impressive block or an open layup.
 
Curry, LeBron, Durant and WB have all been better than Davis so far.

Look at the amount of shots he actually contests! And teams still shoot 44%, which is decent rim protection but not "best in the league".

PER is your basis for how good he is? PER is the must overused stat when measuring how good someone is. That and blocks for how good someone as rim protection.
 
Paul George is better as well. Hell, so is Blake Griffin

So opponent FG% vs contest. He's at 43.5%. Not 50% as you claimed earlier.

Davis is 7th in the league among PFs and Cs playing > 25 mpg behind only Gobert (35%), Ibaka (39.5%), Jerami Grant (?), Brook Lopez (42.4%) , Whiteside (42.6%), and Draymond Green (42.8%).

Considering the names on that list, I'd say he's an elite rim protector. Even moreso when you consider what little help he has alongside him.

Last year he was at 49%. These guys are also contesting twice the amount of shots he is, which is what a rim protector does, you know, protect the rim. He's still only doing that 22% of the time while these other guys are doing at about a 30-40% clip.

Love's team is 15-7, 1st seed in the East.

He's filling up the stat sheet with 18/11, hitting .366 of his 3pt attempts. He's only got a PER of 21.3. Not too shabby for a #2 option.

And not at all, but that's the player he is. He's not the best PF in the league like some thought because of the inflated stats he put up in Minnesota...

Steve Kerr is generous and self-effacing in his praise for his assistants. Don't believe him.

I don't know if he was ever considered the best PF in the league. He put up monster stats as the only go to guy and he's putting up all star numbers on a contender. He arguably is having the best season of any PF in the East.

Great post. This is the answer, always and forever. Throughout history the great coaches have also had great players. Could Jackson have coaches a non MJ Bulls team or a non Kobe/Shaq Lakers team to titles? What about popovich without Duncan/Robinson/Parker/Manu? Doc Rivers won a couple in Boston because of the players he had. He's got tons of talent in LAC, but still hasn't won one there.
