Serious question. I don't live in Oregon, so I haven't followed that closely. Those of you that voted for him, are you happy, or regretful that you put a man in office that admitted he couldn't run the state the first time?

I thought it was foolish for people to elect him again, but I don't know how he has done this time. Only how he did when I still lived in Oregon.

The Dems could put a box of soggy underwear up for office in Oregon and it would win.

I have no idea, i haven't really seen him do much of anything really.

Lets see..

other than his not allowing the use of the death penalty while he is in office, and the claim that he will once again bring the whole subject up to "the voters" that have been fine with it every time..

Allowing out of state as well as out of the country contractor to eat up all the obummer stimulas monies..

fuck, he is great..

Good F'ing QUESTION!

Nobody knows with a recluse for a governor

Thanks Portland.

So as I expected.

Hopefully Oregon can get someone in there next time that will help turn the state around. Dem or Rep.

Not that you'll care about the facts, but Oregon voters have voted both for and against the death penalty in the past, the last vote on the subject being 27 years ago.

Allowing out of state as well as out of the country contractor to eat up all the obummer stimulas monies..

Of course he allowed that, since he had no power to stop it. That was federal spending, and allowed by a Department of Labor rule. And before you go blaming 'obummer', that DoL rule has been around forever.

fuck, he is great..

for all you know, he might be.

What I don't get about him is this.

It's ok to kill babies, but it's not ok to kill convicted rapists?

I'm pretty sure he's never said he's in favor of killing babies. You are confusing him with me. But I eat what I kill, so it's ok.

well it is well known that he is pro choice but anti death penalty. He will kill you unborn fetus and let a murder who wants to die live at the tax payers expence on both cases, not that I let the facts get in the way...

He got UO's President fired for running too successful of a financial model. Only 7% of UO's operating budget was going to come from state funds.

Kitzhaber has gone full dictator, or as close to one as the Oregon governship allows under the state's constitution.

Not only that, the Haugen has hinted that he will kill again in prison now, just to prove a point.

I'm sure the family of Haugen's next victim will be happy that John Kitzhaber denies murderers who want to die the opportunity to find new prey in prison.

But I eat what I kill, so it's ok.

You worked your way to the top of the food chain for that right. So, good for you.

He won't kill anyone in maximum security. I'm with the Gov on this one, living out his life in prison is far greater punishment than being sent to a quick death.

Living out his life in isolation 23 hours a day is more humane then killing him? That's an interesting perspective. Kitzhaber isn't sparing him to punish him with a more severe punishment. You know this, right?

Obviously not if you read my post. Either way I think people on death row should be punished instead by living out their lives and reflecting on what they've done.

...and killing the occasional person who gets too close to them.

Great plan.

Reflecting what they have done? These "people" aren't puppies where you rub their nose in the pee on the floor and tell them to think about what they've done. These are "people" that rape and kill children and innocent other people of this world. They simply don't put a lot of time into reflecting. These are people that doctors over and over say can not be reformed. Put a gun to their head and shoot them day 1. Fucking bleeding hearts in this country kill me

they will send the flower of America's youth overseas to third world countries to die, but death row inmates deserve to live the rest of their natural lives in relative comfort on the taxpayers' dime "reflecting on what they've done."

good to know priorities are in order

(No) Thanks to Portland.

Oh you mean where most people live? And how the popular vote wins?

damn Portland. They're cheating!

Who is 'they' in 'they will send...'? Kitzhaber?

barfo

Call me a bleeding heart but I believe everyone has a purpose on this earth. And that even if they don't have a transformation or epiphany until their death bed it's worth keeping their soul around till they do. Call me a Budist.

Of-course they Doctors can't do much for people in that rechid system. I think it's the asylums fault prisoners aren't reflecting and being reformed, not the doctors.

no. I was responding indirectly to "bleeding heart liberals" who are staunch pro-choicers, staunch anti-death-penalty, but vote to send people off to war

I'm not sure that true bleeding heart liberals would vote to send people off to war.

Congressman Barbara Lee from CA was the only member of Congress to vote against the Afghanistan war (a.k.a. "Sending our troops off to war"). I believe that there is more than one other member of Congress against the death penalty and pro-choice

Hello Mr False Dichotomy, it's been a while. Nice seeing you again.

I'm not ashamed to say I'm too dumb to understand what you just said.

I thought my train of thought was pretty clear. Barfo asked if I was talking about Kitzhaber, and I said no.
I was responding indirectly to "bleeding heart liberals" who are staunch pro-choicers, staunch anti-death-penalty, but vote to send people off to war
Barfo then said that he wasn't sure that true bleeding heart liberals would send people to war. I took that to mean that he didn't have a problem with the other characterizations.
I then showed how every single member of Congress (save Congressman Lee) voted to send people to Afghanistan. Ergo, there are either no bleeding heart liberals in Congress, or barfo can now be sure that they would send people to war.

What exactly did I miss?

Never mind the improbability of Haugen being given the opportunity to kill on Death Row, he's pleased with the ruling anyway.

Apparently the POS fancies himself a courageous activist.

Gov. John Kitzhaber's moratorium on executions while he remains in office triggered an outpouring of support and condemnation Wednesday, but his decision won approval from an unexpected source: death row inmate Gary Haugen, whose request to die spurred the intervention.

The twice-convicted killer praised Kitzhaber for calling attention to problems with the death penalty system. Haugen noted Kitzhaber's criticisms of the death penalty's costs and uneven application in Oregon are the same issues he has repeatedly raised in court appearances and letters.

"Now the system's going to get looked at," Haugen said in a phone interview, hailing the move as a victory.

The news was especially satisfying, he said, after months of detractors challenging his mental competence. "Imagine what people – intelligent and professional people – who are really trying to make a difference can do," he said with some sarcasm.

Haugen, 49, said he's unsure what his next legal step will be. But he said if nothing changes by the time Kitzhaber leaves office, he may once again seek to be executed.

"I was and am willing to die for my beliefs," he said.
