Wow, really, I felt alcohol defined the 60' and 70's. But the 70's, it wouldn't surprise me. In what form do you think?

I think you'd be right. Bodybuilders started up with them in the 50s (or sooner). Use started to be widespread in sport not long after.

Well in the early 60s I remember hearing that players uses. Uppers (greenies) to get up for games. And I think there was an old Braves pitcher who said he remembers in the 70s taking things. I think he said his name was Tom House..

I don't think baseball players really saw the benefits of using steroids or HGH until later. Clearly football players for example were using in the 70s. When examining the size and builds of these baseball players you can notice when some of these guys just started getting jacked.

Of course, cocaine is arguably a much more powerful PED than any steroids, the boost of energy you get is enormous, and players were taking coke by the truckload back in the day, very few are innocent.

They're the faces of the s0-called steroid era. Sosa, McGwire, Bonds, Gonzales (Juan & Luis), Palmeiro, Anderson, Mitchell, Canseco & Beltre. All from the mid 90s on.

But eye brows were raised even further back when HOFer Kirby Puckett who hit only 4 HRs in 1985 (161 games) was followed (1986) with 31 HRs in the same amount of games. So who knows?

The real shame is this kid Davis on the Orioles. You can't help but wonder that IF he reaches 62 HRs if his going to get the proper credit as the NEW record holder?

I made reference to that earlier. But you'll find people who say that that's not the same as PEDs. IMO though it was still a form of pumping yourself up. Pitchers were going on 4 days rest back then due to the 4 man rotation. If pitcher (A) popped a few pills to get up for the game & Pitcher (B) didn't, then pitcher (A) had the advantage.

I've no doubt that players from the 50s & 60s swore by them.
