Hey I was just curious as to how many of you guys have jobs, and what do you get paid. See I have been working at this local grocery store for 2years and 3months about, and I only make 7$ an hour. Just wondering what kinda jobs you guys might have?

I'd look for another job, getting paid minimum wage after working somewhere for over 2 years is ridiculous.

Starbucks, after tips are factored in, I make about $9.25 an hour. I get free drinks all throughout my shift, 30% off, and a free pound of coffee a week.

Yea I agree shape, the pay is bad I started at 6.25$ hah. I guess the only reason why I stay is cause the managers are really cool there, and its really loose. Like I can do whatever just as long as the store looks good when I leave. But yea thats kinda why I wanted to make this thread was to get ideas from other people and see what jobs they got.

That starbucks job is pretty sweet, my girlfriend used to work at a coffee shop tips are good, although I'm not much of a coffee person for the taste or the smell..

Yeah even worse, I understand it's nice to be in a laid back environment, but there are jobs available where the environment is laid back and you can make more than $7.00 an hour.

I'd recommend you get a job working for a bank or a lawyer. I'm assuming you're young, and the best way to build your resume is working for a respected professional. Working for a bank or lawyer will give you strong references to use later on.

If you work at bank, there's room for growth if you consider working there for the long term.

Carter - I'm a business consultant.

At the moment, I work for a gas station called Road Ranger. It used to be Quik Trip but they were bought out in my area. However, I just recently got a new job today for a telemarketing company called PRC and start there on Monday, so I get the joy of quitting my crappy job on Saturday probably. I'll go from making $7.75 an hour to $8.50. Ha...too bad my job working for Coca Cola still paid way better -- $9.50 an hour and $.475 per mile.

I'm the assistant manager of a local Sunglass Hut. I make $10.75 with a 3% commission. Which isn't much, but it's just something to pay my minuscule bills while I stay with the folks. School is my number one priority.

This is decent pay for a laid back job and some good experience, however, I'm surprised you don't work at a music store with all the CDs you buy.

Sasha, one way you can make some extra money is buying a pair of sunglasses at your employee discount and then re-selling it to someone who's willing to pay cash for a pair after work. I'm not sure what your discount is 30% or so? So you can sell it to someone for 10% off and no tax and you keep the difference.

Hmmm I might have to look into a job at a Bank near my house. Thanks for the idea.

Wow 10.75 for selling sunglasses is not bad at all.

I work as a "floor caretaker". I clean carpets with special machinery, put oil on wooden floors etc. Per hour I get paid 21,24 dollars (which seems like a whole lot when I convert it from the Swedish currency). It's a good pay for a simple job, but about 30% of the salary goes to taxes.

I work two jobs right now, I'm a Head Cashier at Steve and Barry's University Sportswear where I make $9/hour and i'm a Guest Service Representitive at Hollywood Video where I make $8/hour. Combined I get about 35-40 hours a week, I had a full-time job but decided i'd rather work part time and get my **** together for college.

Yeah I work at Walgreens...crappiest job in the world.

Never work in retail.

work for budweiser. Lot of labor but easy once u know the ropes

That would be my dream job, although I'd probally get fired after my first day, wouldnt be able to stay sober for too long.

Oh, it's very fun. It's a very social atmosphere, because it's in a mall, so I get to interact with all kinds of people. As for the music thing, there''s really no good record shops in my area. I wouldn't want to work for someone like FYE either, because they don't carry a lot of stuff I listen to so I couldn't relate to it. Too selfish maybe? Eh. The only good "indie" shop around me is about 45 minutes away, and I don't feel like making that route two times a day for just a measly part-time job, but I see what you're saying.

I do a lot of that. As well, we get quarterly sales that give us 50% off, and that's when I make mad cash.

Me and my friend just recently got this job working for his brother's fiance. She works at an insurance office so we do stuff like filing, typing up stuff, and other clerical work. We get $10 an hour and the hours are really flexible.

I work at a Longs, get paid $7.50 an hour (pathetic in CA). Job sucks ass but the people are cool and its really laid back.

I work at a restaraunt. get paid 10$ an hour for taking/packing orders and occasionally cooking.

Haha... scamming his way to more money.

I've come a long way since my first job at 16 years old where I made $5.15 pushing carts around for a grocery store. Currently I am the Merchandising Supervisor at Best Buy. I make between $15-20 ( not giving exact amount

) plus quarterly and yearly bonuses based off revenue, NOP, shrink of the store. Bonuses can be anywhere from $2500 quarterly on top of my normal pay, to nothing at all. All is based of the success of the store. The discounts at Best Buy are incredible on some products, others not a dime off of. I am only 20 and I think this is a pretty good position considering... However, the moral of the story is STAY IN SCHOOL... I dropped out for a while and finally getting back in to find out the degrees only fast track and make your career that much better and inevitably more $$.

^Yea, I think everyone should take a year off after high school - get a sense of the real world - and then go to college.

I don't know, it seems like everyone I know in college is just there b/c there parents went to college and they either followed there parents or were forced to go to college by them, or they just don't know what else to do besides go to college.

It seems like kids just drift into college with no real sense/purpose. If they take a year off inbetween, get a job and realize where they would be if they don't finish college (not you hoops, sounds like your doing well), then they will go to college with a motive and want to get a degree.

I agree 100%. Getting a job without a college degree or with no real working expierence background makes it tough... really makes you work twice or three times as hard to get to a pay rate of that of someone with one. In reality I believe I can complete any job given the chance and the knowledge equally as good if not better than anyone, it is just having that "piece of paper" that matters to the buisness. Thats why I plan on going back to school in the summer... even though I honestly do enjoy my current job, its def not where I want to be 10-15 years from now.

True.

Good luck in school man...hard work pays off.

So I officially gave my 2 weeks at my current job because I just got a new one. I'll get the joy of working for a company called PRC and I'll get to be a telemarketer. I've had numerous people tell me not to do it, but I could care less. I currently despise my job too much to say no. Plus, I'll be going from $7.75 to $8.50 an hour, so I won't complain.

I officially hate you. I want to murder every telemarketer...

And, you'll be losing your dignity with it. Thank God I'm on the Do Not Call list.

Holy sh!t... shape, sasha, foops, lakeshow... seems like ol skool days here...

yeah i work to pay off loans but i also hustle...

Yeah, telemarketer is probably one of the shittyest jobs out there. Not only is it boring, but it also makes you feel a bit guilty if you sell whatever crap you are selling. I had my jobs for 3-4 days, then I quit.
