How Many Of You Have Ever Dreamed Of Being A High-End Chef?

I know I have......on countless occasions.

Kick myself for not going to culinary school straight out of high school.

I only thought about how huge I would be if I actually worked around food all day.

I was talking to my girlfriend about this the other day though. Not chef school but how I wished I would have went right into bodywork when I was out of school. Just because it is the best job for me in that the work day just flies for me when I am busy. I try and race the clock to get my work done and before I know it the end of the shift has come. I just love my job despite the fact that it isn't the most respected profession on Earth.

I worked at Linear and SEH when I lived in Vancouver in my 20's.....it was so boring at times that I almost wanted to take a hit off of an arsine tank just to end it all. (kidding)

I hear ya.

Please, please be sure to take extra precautions with good masks and filters. My brother-in-law came extremely close to dying from aplastic anemia due to not wearing correct masks while painting vehicles. Fortunately, he was able to get a bone marrow transplant (I believe it was cow marrow) at UW's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Literally saved his life.

Yeah, I don't paint but I am around enough chemicals every day. I wear the best respirators that 3m makes and I am really the only guy who does so religiously at work. I am also the only guy who doesn't cough every five minutes. I am often amazed at how many bodymen smoke....fuel to the fire. Then again I don't want to be a chef because I would get so fat I would need a scooter to get to work and most kitchens probably couldn't fit me. So who am I to judge?

Being a chef is a shit job. It's unbelievably hard work when you're on the line, and even for the Executive Chef. That being said, it's awfully fun to cook. It's kind of like woodworking, but with food.
