How many PPG (points per game) will Simons average this upcoming 2024 season? His last 3 years he averaged;

2021 7.8 ppg
2022 17.3 ppg
2023 21.1 ppg

I don't see there being as many shots for Ant on this team as there were last year and no one on this team will take the perimeter pressure away from Ant the way Dame did. If we're featuring him for a trade then it would be completely different but if we're bought into Ant long term, I think he gets right around 20 and his scoring average goes down from last season.

I would think around 18 ppg, along with Ayton, Grant, and Shae.

Ant, the last 3 seasons:

2020-21....FGA/game 6.3....3ptFG% .426....TS% .589
2021-22....FGA/game 14.0....3ptFG% .405....TS% .583
2022-23....FGA/game 16.9....3ptFG% ..377....TS% .581

unsurprisingly, his shooting percentages have dropped as he's shot more. That's pretty common. He did a good job of keeping his TS% up by slightly increasing his FT rate and significantly increasing his conversion rate at the rim

he's been around 1.24-1.25 points/shot. Assuming a slight drop in efficiency if he's the number 0ne option, he'd require

22 points/game = 17.9 shots/game
24 points/game = 19.5 shots/game
25 points/game = 20.3 shots/game
26 points/game = 21.1 shots/game
27 points/game = 22.0 shots/game
28 points/game = 22.8 shots/game
29 points/game = 23.6 shots/game

for comparison, last season, Dame had his highest ever FGA rate and it was 20.7 shots a game. Dame's career average was 18.6, and in only 2 of his 11 seasons did he hit the 20 shot plateau

Doncic led the NBA last season in FGA at 22.0/game. Tatum was next at 21.1. Dame was 3rd

with Grant, Ayton, Scoot, and Sharpe on the team, I think if Simons approaches 19 shots/game the Blazers offense is out of whack

I care more about points per minute played...than points per game. Efficiency....baby.

Also, if he is to make that leap this season, he should be able to create when the offense is stagnant...not just when he has a hot hand.

I don't hate Simons. I just don't want him on this team. I want Scoot/Sharpe. I think Simons is tainted from the stink of the Stotts no-defense/iso ball culture.
Bringing his no-defense/iso-ball butt off the bench for instant offense could be very valuable.

Simons is a fantastic 3P shooter which this team still needs, especially since Scoot is not (yet, at least) a real threat from the 3. He is also a secondary / primary ball-handler - and Shae's handle is not good enough (yet, at least) to handle this role as well.

He should not be the number 1 option. He should be the 6th man and embrace the role. He could do what Herro did. I hope Joe packages him with Jrue and ships him out. Probably hafta take back a bunch of expirings/buy outs.

I like Simons a lot. If Sharpe were as badass as he is but a power forward or even a wing that's four inches taller, we'd be set.

I voted 20ppg or less because I find it hard to believe he's going to get all the shots he wants with Grant and Ayden around, but I don't think that's a bad thing and is not (in my predictive brain) his fault.

Ant is going to be teeing off. He's the only quick release 3 point shooter without Lillard. I reckon his scoring will be up there, 26ppg

I think he going to score over 20 points game due he will in there in situation when he will be the main scorer. But with the starters I see a lot catch and shoot 3 pointers with him.

I think it depends on if he's the PG or they use him off the ball.

I'd rather him score 20 and give up only like 12.

It would make sense to have him split his time (or thereabouts) between the two guard spots... have him play with Scoot and then with Sharpe and when he's out those two play together. I think I'd rather have him getting minutes at the 1 than Sharpe getting minutes at the 3 unless we go small and all three are playing together.

I don't think any team can truly contend in this league with two players starting who are under 6'4" unless both are relentless dogs on defense... Ant ain't that.

actually, Blazers under 6'3 w/o shoes

Cleveland is trying with 6'1 Mitchell and 6'1 Garland but I think they will fail, even though both players are very very good

it isn't just the back court for Portland, it's that they've been going with undersized SF's and undersized PF's at the same time. I really hate that Blazer management can't seem to learn the lesson and seem determined to run it back with Ant

I think Ant is going to return to his average shooting from 3. With a slight uptick in shots every night and maybe some growth in getting to the line, he averages 25ish-ppg.

Ayton is going to get more touches and shots as well. Grant will probably stay the same. No projection for Scoot or Sharpe’s fga for me.

But the truth remains that Ant isn’t the long term solution at SG. I haven’t found a wing in the draft that I’m in love with enough to tank for this year, so I’m fine losing out on our 1st. I will definitely be rooting for the playoffs. If Scoot leads us to a season similar to ‘15-‘16, Ant will command the two 1sts we want, or find a long term fit at the wing position.
