HOW prichard was fired

Think about this. You really think the Blazers really leaked this to the press 15 minutes before the draft? C'mon. This has Legarries fingerprints all over it, and Quick even admitted that his source was from inside KP's camp.

That doesn't change the story that Pritchard was told right before the draft, does it? Who the fuck cares who leaked what? A team supposedly contending for a title is without a GM and has a coach on an expiring contract goning into the biggest NBA summer in recent memory.

Apparently KP and Allen had a heated argument over his status last night over the pre-draft dinner ... the point is, we don't know what went on behind the scenes, we don't know why KP was fired, but it was apparently not just some random act of violence.

You brought up Pritchard's camp leaking the firing. This is what I was commenting on. Who cares who leaked it?

I don't care about the leak.
I don't care what the media think about the firing.
I don't care that I found out before the draft, after the draft or 10 years from now.

But on what fucking planet do you fire an employee one hour before they are going to do their most important job of the year then tell them to stick around to do that job?

That is what is so absurd. You want to fire him, fire him. You want to fire him the night before, do it and tell him to fuck off.

Instead you allow a disgruntled employee give you a hand during one of the most important days of the year for the team.

There is a reason PA's business ventures tend to fail. This is probably part of it.

Larry said that KP wanted to stay and do the draft after he and Allen agreed it was time to part ways.

It did not effect the draft. So it is a moot point in my opinion

If Miller is to be believed KP asked to run the draft after he was canned and Allen agreed he could.

And that's a plus for Allen? You fire a guy, then allow him to direct your draft?

Incompetence at its finest. If Allen was a real boss, he'd have told Pritchard to pound sand. This pretty much confirms the wishy-washy image I have of Paul Allen.

I get it, your super pissed off at Allen, and I agree that this was not handled well, but I'm a pragmatist: KP is gone, the draft is over and the team needs to figure its shit out pretty quick. I just hope they do.

Yet it worked out just fine. Maybe if he refused to let him finish the day, the others may have rebelled or at least not have been as focused.

Funny that everyone is assuming that Paul Allen chose to fire KP at the time he did. From what it sound like, they had a sit down, and KP very well may have pushed the issue. PA stood firm in his decision that the team needs to move in a new direction, and they decided to call it quits.

Seems like normal business....Not a big deal. KP was given a great job and well compensated. He was given a talented team of people around him, and they all made him look like a rock star. He should be very thankful for all the Paul has done.

On a side note. From O-Live..

I'd sure like to know more about this. Was it really Patterson who pushed for that trade, he was president/GM at that time, wasn't he??

Agreed. We know the story was leaked an hour before the draft, and that's all we know. I find it hard to fathom that KP woke up this morning not knowing it was his last day on the job, but again, who knows? I think the "how" KP got fired, is not nearly as relevant as the "why." I like KP, but I know everybody's human. Who's to say KP didn't really screw up somehow? For all we know, it could have been Paul Allen who was taking the high road this whole time. Sounds unlikely, but anything's possible when you don't have the whole story. I'll reserve judgement on both of them.

It just shows what a complete dipshit Allen is.....

Delay you dumbass....He could have told KP that now was not the time to discuss it and that they could discuss it tomorrow.....It is that easy....

It doesn't matter who leaked it....the ACTION was initiated from Allen....

Fuck...he is a complete idiot....

"Hey Paul kiss my fucking ass. Sorry KP this is not the time to talk about that"

Your right that was easy....

that does not change the fact that allen fired him one hour before the draft. my point is that of all the times to let him go, this was a symbolic one.

He didn't fire him an hour before the draft. He fired him weeks ago. KP and company chose to leak the story an hour before the draft.

Kevin Pritchard quietly exits the Portland Trail Blazer practice facility at 8:30 pm in Tualatin after the NBA draft was completed. Earlier in the evening Pritchard was fired. Doug Beghtel/ The Oregonian

That is not the official story from the Blazers, as per Larry Miller. According to Larry, the decision was made this afternoon.

I think the reason PA waited until now was because he didnt want someone else to hire KP before the draft and get tthe benefit of his reseasch. KP has an eye for talent and knows the Blazers wants/needs and stratagey.

Yes, that is surely correct. Having KP hired before the draft by another team would be a bit of a disaster from the keeping-secrets perspective.
However, it seems as though there is another shoe to drop - we have a lot of players now and should be doing a trade or five. Why isn't Prichard's knowledge of that worthy of protecting?
Seems like September 1 would have been a better date to dump him.

I agree that KP probably knew he was going to be gone way before today, and not just an hour before the draft. And the 'how 'doesn't matter as much as the 'why.'

But if Paul Allen really took the high road, why not come forth with the reason why he fired KP and try to calm the waters a bit? Or is it just a case that PA really doesn't give a shit, and could care less if the fans will hate him for staying mute on the whole thing.

I half agree with you. But how do you say "I feel like KP/Penn and their slimmy agent deceived me after I gave them all my trust. I felt hurt by their deception and our relationship can not be repaired."

It seems like it is easier to just keep your mouth shut from a legal standpoint. Plus I doubt he would want to hinder them from getting other jobs. Just a possibility.

Riiiiiight.

Yeah, it was obviously coming down the pike. But you claimed that KP decided to leak the news as if it happened today... if that's true the Blazers are somehow backing up KP's story that it happened today.
Maybe they both have an interest in making us think it was decided today, I don't know.

If it makes KP look bad, then PA can't really say for legal and PR reasons.

Their relationship went sour after a while. Here's an old glory day picture.
