How to keep Kanter?

I'd like to keep Kanter, but with Nurkic coming back eventually, I'd rather they use any cap tricks they can to keep Seth Curry and/or Rodney Hood. Guards/wings who can shoot and hang in defensively are more important than post-up centers--especially when the Blazers already have one who will be back.

I disagree completely.

If we had a healthy Nurk AND Kanter, We'd probably have the best backup big and Center tandem in the league.

Imagine Kanter coming off the bench in the DEN series.

We'd have won it in 5.

So ... you saying that the "Muslims" in Dallas support Erdogan ... ( and Turkuglu and Ozil), while living in the USA where they enjoy freedom of religion ... Some people are just nuts ... if you asked me .
Holy shit Dallas pulled out of Enes free basketball camps because of the Dallas Muslim community pressure...Enes has been sentenced to 4 years in prison in Turkey..his father is serving 15 years and he is isolated from his family...Ron Widen is trying to help him and will meet him in DC....serious reality for a guy with such a positive personality and generous spirit..this is another green light for Enes to want to live in Oregon...I don't think big market glamour is the first thing on Enes mind at this point

Yeah I would say for once our climate could be a plus in attracting free agents.
(political climate)

If the Lakers pay him more than the MLE that's basically it for big free agents. I can't imagine that is their plan.

I don't think Boston gives up max cap space for Kanter.

I think those teams are hoping he plays for a tiny salary.

He very much enjoyed his time here, I think he only leaves if it's understandably for more money.

I'm liking our chances more of signing him for the tax MLE.

If the Lakers got Kanter, LOOK THE FUCK OUT!!

Trade Mo and Meyers for somebody on a cheap deal...somebody like a Vince Carter or a future draft pick(s) maybe a guy on a rookie deal who's a pt guard...then use the money saved to sign Kanter….

I agree and think the blazers have to come up with the cash to keep Kanter and/or Hood. What would happen to cap space if Aminu is handed his walking papers? I am not up on the inner workings of this stuff.

I don’t follow the NBA (or S2) like I used to (for good reasons in both cases).

I know Kanter’s D is often weak. And I get that the NBA game is changing. I’m just unclear why any Blazers fan wouldn’t want us to re-sign this 27-year old big after his performance in Portland for 40 games.

WTF is to debate? He doesn’t have to play when his game doesn’t fit the flow. But it’s nice to have a big man (or two or three) when that’s how the game is going (or when that is what it takes to beat the other team). I don’t hesitate to sign a big man that can score and rebound, 8 days/week.

:dunno:

There is no way were able to resign Kanter and Hood. 0 chance.

Because resigning Kanter means not resigning Hood.

The ONLY debate would be if somehow it came down to Kanter vs Hood vs Curry.

I'll take those odds at 100 to 1.

We don't sign one I give you $10.

We sign one you give me $1000.

Either you are guaranteed $10 for free or your statement is bullshit.

There is most certainly a chance Kanter doesn't get offers above the tax MLE.

How likely so you think it is that we resign both?

There is this thing called a salary cap. The debate is because it would require trading away multiple assets to offer Kanter more than the MLE. Would you trade away CJ to open up cap space to sign Kanter? That is an extreme but it gives you an example of why this is a debate.

Id estimate about 5% we resign Hood.

40% we resign Kanter.

Less than 1% we resign both.

Most likely they are gone, but certainly a debatable chance, we see far less likely resignings every off-season so it's ridiculous to state its definitively 0.

Now if you were only talking about resigning both I tend to agree that's very unlikely. I initially took your statement to mean resigning either is 0.

I'd take Hood first based on our roster need and lack of other free agent options at that position.

However I would not wait for Hood, if Kanter is willing to take the tax MLE at any moment I agree to that.

Curry I'm not as high on, I'd certainly sign him for 1 year tax MLE but I not sure I'd want to offer him multiple years. His game is limited besides his excellent 3 pt shooting. It also duplicates our strongest position. I don't think he would be happy with DNP if Simons took minutes from him. Maybe a chance of him becoming disgruntled. I'm fine if Neil decides to not even make him an offer. For many teams he would be excellent as a tax MLE signing.

I meant both, haha.

Roster need
Doesn't Bazemore replace Hood?

It's really unclear where the Blazers stand on Hood. If you believe they really want to play Bazemore, and also give Ant more minutes, then I think you have to believe they either trade Harkless or relegate him to the bench in order to find time for Hood.

I'd say Simons and Bazemore will replace Curry and Hood

What is this salary cap you speak of? Never heard of it. And we would never move CJ to keep Kanter - yeah, it’s not only extreme but a dumb suggestion to use it as an example. Maybe we should move Dame, too, so we can somehow keep all of our free agents.

Silliness aside... I wasn’t even speaking in terms of Hood v. Kanter. It really isn’t likely to come to that. Hood may very well receive offers that far exceed what we could offer him. Bazemore was most likely brought in to fill Hood’s role.

Mostly.... I was simply referring to the fact that Kanter played a big role for us down the stretch, when most thought our season was dead because of Nurk’s injury. A lot of folks seem to have forgotten.
