Well I will stay with my opinion about Leonard defense and you can have yours.Come now please.
Let me tell you a little about Meyers. And yes i watch him. Everyone on this board has watched him. The entire team talks to Meyers about their matchup. They do this because Meyers is an absolute encyclopedia of knowledge on opposing players. If you were watching yesterday on one play he actually called Hood from one side of the court to the other and set the screen to run a decoy that opened up Curry for an open three. Stotts did not leave Meyers in the game because of the rotation that Donovan was using. Billy played Paul George 43 minutes. The combination of Noel and George was not good for Meyers. Matter of fact if the Blazers were playing Nurk you would have seen more of it and they would have used Morris a bunch more.
You can bet that Donovan will have to adjust. There is no way he keeps running PG that hard. Meyers will impact this series as soon as that happens. That or Aminu will have a huge game. The Blazers have some of the same players they had last year but they also added a couple scorers in Hood and Curry. Game one that fire power gave the Thunder fits. Remember Jake didn't even play. We all know Layman can come in and effect a game.
The unconditional Meyers hate is boring at best. Meyers plays defense. He is a big and does demand attention on the offensive end. That factor creates fatigue of the other teams bigs and it gives Enes and Collins some rest. Last game Stotts went with Collins and Meyers for 5 mins. Billy had to put PG back in the game. If you can't see that effect then i don't know what to tell you.
Wouldn't even need to clear cap space. If he signed a 1-year MLE deal, we could then use the early-bird exception to re-sign him the next summer to 43M/4y if so inclined.I'll be surprised if he doesn't get an offer over the full MLE, so it's going to have to be a case of him wanting to be a Blazer and being willing to wait at least a year for them to clear enough cap space to give him more.

Agree about Rolo.Pray he takes the tax MLE. If he keeps playing like he has though he’s going to price himself out of Portland. He’s only 26. If he does, I wouldn’t mind signing Rolo. He’d be a solid starter until Nurk came back. The center market isn’t great though, so who knows, maybe we can bring Kanter back.
Agree about Rolo.
What do you mean by center market? From the player's perspective or teams'?
Here are some of the big men available this summer:
- Cousins
- Vucevic
- Horford
-Marc Gasol
- B. Lopez
- R. Lopez
- DeAndre
- Ed Davis
- Javale
- Mirotic
- Millsap
-Taj Gibson
- Faried
This is just unrestricted guys. There's a few more who will be restricted (Porzingis/Cauley-Stein/ Portis) and others who haven't yet exercised opt outs (Randle, etc). I'd say nearly every single guy on that list above will get paid more than Kanter this summer. If Kanter gets a full non-tax payer MLE, fine, we'll find a ridiculously good bargain elsewhere.

I said nearly everyone on that list, not all. But the ones outside of whom you mentioned will get offered more. What? You think teams value McGee, Gibson, Faried above Kanter? I sincerely doubt that. A lot, for Kanter, will depend on how this series goes. If he shows that his defense isn't so bad that he's "Can't Play Kanter" in the playoffs, he'll be much more valuable. He's always been a very good scorer and rebounder--there was just a sense that he'd kill a team too much on defense. If that proves to be overstated--if Stotts is right that Kanter's reputation is no longer accurate about his defense--his value will jump. And I'd say game 1 worked in his favor quite a bit, not just his stat line but being capable enough on defense.
Yes, I was basing my figures on tax MLE this year. My apologies for not specifying; I just assumed it was understood. As I understand it, unless they can move off Turner's or Leonard's contracts in a trade that brings back less salary, just re-signing anyone will take them over the luxury tax line. So they wouldn't have the full MLE for Kanter, just the tax-payer's MLE. I think his value exceeds the mini-MLE by a fair amount.

Still gonna wait to see how this all plays out. One game doesn't take away from the last few weeks of evidence we have about Enes' bad defense. Nearly every metric points him to be a massive weak link for our defense.Last off-season, they would. As I said, this off-season, it's awfully variable depending on how Kanter shows in the playoffs. Nurkic getting injured could be a double-blow for Portland, because if Kanter plays only below-average-but-still-usable defense and showcases his scoring and rebounding ability, I think he jumps past a lot of players on that list. He's still young-prime--with playable defense, he's basically Valanciunas, whom I think would draw a lot of interest on the open market.
I thought about this too but Kanter gives the bench some offensive punch Ed doesn't add....Zach has Ed's job nowI see Kanter leaving for big contract and Neil resigning Ed.
I feel like OKC is a very favorable matchup to hide his defensive deficiencies. They tried to force feed the P&R with Russ/Adams yesterday. It was effective, but not nearly as bad for us as it could be since Enes could just hang way back at the rim and contest there. Were it run by a guy who's actually a threat to shoot from outside, I'm sure Kanter's issues would be magnified. This is one adjustment I'm anticipating-- them letting PG initiate the P&R instead of Russ.
In the words of Neil..."We want guys here that want to be here"...….hello Enes Kanter, Rodney Hood ….Seth Curry in my view might want a bigger role on a bottom feeding team.
Yeah, I think something that's being overlooked is how happy Kanter was to get out of a losing situation in NY and onto a winning team in POR. While CREAM certainly still applies, I think TEAM will play an equal part in his decision - he will take less from a winner rather than more from a loser. If a winning team offers him $2M more than we can offer him he's gone. But if not...In the works of Enes after game one..."I looked at myself in the mirror yesterday and said, ‘I should feel very blessed to be with this team and this organization.’ It means a lot because this one of the classiest and one of the best organizations I’ve ever been a part of."
Hopefully $5.5M (tax-payer MLE).
I dont consider him a backup at all. Hes a top 15-20 C. Better off the bench for a contending team but could start for one if he comes back.
But if we could sign him for the Tax-Payer MLE and sign Hood for the Non-Bird Exception ($4.3M) we'd be set.
There is basically only 2 ways to keep Curry too assuming in this theoretical that Kanter and Hood re-sign first.I'm greedy. I want Curry too. How do we keep all three?
The consensus is the same as it has been since we signed him two months ago.So whats the consensus. Can we keep him realistically or not?

1) Curry accepts a contract for about $3 million or less.
2) Olshey dumps enough contracts to get cap space to re-sign all 3.
Based on what we saw in the last game of the regular season, after this season I'm fine with saying "thank you very much" to Curry and letting him sign a nice fat contract elsewhere. Give his minutes to Simons.
