What if Portland took a different approach (not trying to go after D Will)?

1.) Since Dallas will need big money to get D Williams, I think Jason terry would be available. We could probably offer 7-8 mil and land him.

2.) Then we sign Nash to a back loaded 10 mil first, 11 mil second and 12 mil third year contract.

3.) Then resign Johnny Flynn to a 3 year, last year player option of 2 mil per.

4.) Match any offers for hickson and Batum.

5.) draft Drummond and use our pick, E Will and Matthews to deal with Atlanta for josh smith.

New starting line-up:

PG: Nash, SG: Batum, SF: josh Smith, PF: Hickson, center: Aldridge.

Key reserves: Drummond, Craig smith, Jason terry, Babbitt, resigned pryzbilla, freeland and Flynn.

That team doesn't contend. Nash will be 39 next year, and wants a 3 year deal.

I think we could have Nolan smith and Flynn learn from Nash. Next two seasons Nash starts and comes off the bench in his final year.

Maybe we could coax Michael Jordan out of retirement too. I'd bet Barkley and Malone still want a ring. OH! How about Kareem? He's still alive!

New lineup:

Nash
MJ
Barkley
Malone
Kareem

Grade would be a C-, don't like it, would place it as Plan 5 if the first 4 fail

Lol well the only old players would be pryzbilla and nash. Nash has proven that he can still play at an Allstar level, I doubt any other of those players could.

If Michael Jordan came out of retirement, he'd be voted into the All-Star game for sure.

That team would be funny to watch in an all-star game vs the rookies

I think Albert Einstein could have made it his life's work to teach Chimpanzees to talk and at the end of the run they'd still throw poop at the wall.

Grade D

That analogy doesn't work because chimps can't talk. It wouldn't even work if you used a normal uneducated person learning physics. Flynn and Smith can play basketball and they play point. They made it to the NBA, so they would be in the same boat to Einstein like physicists learning to be geniuses. I think a better analogy is "I think Einstein could have made it his life work to teach physic college grads how to be a genius in physics".

It would be an improvement, but not enough. I would rather keep trying to land our new leader in the draft.

Yes but there aren't that many good "wing leaders" in the draft. Only the #1 pick would net the best wing coming out of the draft. And I'm seriously tired of watching our PGs play so inconsistently. Someone like Nash is consistent. He's not a "Deron Williams", but he is definitely an all-star level talent that has a +20 PER. Isn't he like 2nd in assists this season with a shitty roster? That should say a lot about how good he is at making others around him better.

What about trading our best pick to the suns for Gortat, sign Nash to a 3 year 25m contract, draft Marshall, Reup Batum match Hickson. If we can't keep Hickson bring over Freeland.

Under this sceanrio, we should be able to keep hickson and still bring over Freeland. I just don't see Phoenix doing that trade; especially if we just took away their PG.

Wouldnt mind that. Id love to grab gortat from the suns. And marshall would get some wisdom from nash.

Fail.

Badly.

Why load up on old PG's and use up all out cap when we also need a center. One we know can play.

have you seen the numbers he's putting up as a starter in March and into April with Lowry out?

Yes I have. Small sample size and im not a big fan of giving the guy 8 million per year for four years. What if its a lin type of situation and the guy starts playing like shit and we are stuck with him for four years. Phoenix didnt think that highly of him to move him and a first for aaron brooks

Id rather grab someone like ridnour for half the cost if you can get him for cheap. If jamal opts in, trade him to minny for ridnour

WHO?!?! LOL . I had to look him up because I had no idea who he is.

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ersan_ilyasova/career_stats.html

Actually not bad at all, but he's gonna give us similar numbers as hickson does now. Why not just keep hickson, who is more athletic and seems to work well with Aldridge already?

Cause you can never have enough quality bigs that can rebound and set picks. Playoff basketball is all about pounding the ball inside. not ISOing guards. Elyasova also shoots over 40% from 3. Meaning he could work with either LA or Hickson.
