How you like Bayless now?

Hedo's stock has plummeted and that's the only reason we can even dream of getting him for what I suggested. Hedo is a good player, probably as skilled offensively as Camby is on defense. I think he starts for us, but even if not he'll be very valuable. we'll have two major pieces in our 2nd-unit's backcourt, in Rudy and Hedo, we could play them with any of the starters or bring someone like Blake back this summer.
Last year, Hedo was going to cost us Andre Miller. If we can bring him this summer for spare parts we should definitely go for it.

There's a reason his stock has plummeted. He had a great playoff run and reaped the benefits by signing a BIG contract, but has since come back to Earth. I won't argue that he is skilled offensively, but I still think it's a bad move.

Let me ask you, are you comfortable letting Oden, Batum and/or Rudy walk (if the CBA were to institute a hard cap) because we brought in a declining Hedo?

I just read the other thread about Hedo, wasn't aware of everything that's been going on. I guess this really isn't the best time to offer Hedo trade, but I can see something like what I suggested happen in the summer. I'll go even further and predict that after the dust settles and if the Raptors make it to the playoffs, this deal might not happen because THE RAPS won't do it. Hedo is a good player, I know some of you hate him because of what happened in the summer but Miller is as good as Hedo and we got him instead so there really is no reason to hate. I say that if the opportunity presents himself you trade spare-parts for an All-Star (was he? I can't remember) and if you surround him with one of the most talented teams in the league (which the Blazers minus Bayless, Webster, Pryz are. The Raptors minus Hedo aren't) and relegate him to the bench where he's less pressured by fans and more pressured by himself - you get a low-risk (isn't it at least unlikely that hard-cap will be placed?) high rewrd type of investment.

I see what you are saying, but I don't think 50 mil is a low risk investment . . . I can't remember the exact number but I think the raptors will be paying him about 10 million . . . in 2014.

It's his contract that makes him poison right now.

Bringing in Hedo takes away minutes from Batum. He already doesn't get enough minutes, IMO. No chance I bring in someone like Hedo to screw that even more. I'd prefer to see Batum at 30 minutes a night. I'd prefer to not see Hedo on our team. If he's unhappy, he can agree to be bought out, and then I wouldn't mind signing him extremely cheap. No chance I take on 43 million dollars for 4 year for him, though.

A few things:

-I personally people don't hate Hedo at all for what he did, in fact, I am quite thankful.
-Miller is not as good as Hedo. He is better, and by quite a margin.
-Hedo was never an All-Star
-No one knows what the next CBA will include, so that's why it's so risky to take on such a massive contract. Although I'd say a hard-cap is unlikely, who knows what changes are in store.
-4 years/~40 Million is too much for a bench player.

You just nailed it. This team needs a cheap veteran backup small forward with a defensive mindset who can shoot it a little. Webster doesn't quite qualify, since he seems to lose confidence in a backup role and is still probably too young and too overpaid to sit on the bench as a ninth man; a guy like Maurice Evans from Atlanta springs to mind.

Frankly, I think out of Bayless, Webster and Rudy at least one and possibly two will be moved over the summer and depending on what comes back (hopefully an heir apparent point guard who can backup Miller and then presumably take over in another year or two) they might address that backup 2/3 spot with a guy who can swing between both positions.

Yeah, I think this season has shown, to all of those last season who mocked the value of veterans, the true value of veterans on a team. With Howard and Miller initially, and now Camby. The value is undeniable, IMO.

I can definitely see us moving 2 out of the 3 of Bayless, Rudy and Webster. I am thinking/hoping it is Bayless and Webster. I like Bayless, and want him to be here long term, but I prefer Rudy to him, personally, and of the two, want Rudy to stay. All depends, I suppose, on what you can get back in value.

But I agree on finding that vet to back up the 2/3. Primarily the 3. And someone who won't care about minutes, so that Roy sees time there, with Rudy at the 2 in stretches.

Maurice Evans is a decent option. In the same light, Keith Bogans, as well, would be alright there. Raja Bell. Devean George. Damien Wilkins. Trenton Hassell. Even someone like Ime Udoka. Someone you don't need a lot of minutes from, and is fine with not getting or needing many minutes.

I don't hate Turkoglu. I was glad he chose Toronto over Portland. I can simply see that his performance record shows that he's rarely been an above average player. His stock is not "down" now, if by that you mean he's undervalued...his stock was inflated by a nice, high profile playoff run and now an average player is paired with a star contract and no one wants any part of that.

I would like Turkoglu as a role-player on this team being paid role-player money. Considering he's being paid a silly amount of money for years, he's not a good value. I might trade Przybilla (if he's unlikely to recover) and Webster for Turk, if SPAM (spending Paul Allen's money) policy is in effect. If Allen wants to conserve money to re-sign Portland's own players, then I wouldn't trade anything at all for Turkoglu.
