Maybe you just suck at it?
IF ^ can happen... even as much as a Dwight hater I am... I WOULD consider this a win & I would welcome him & Parsons.Renounce Leonard, Harkless, Kaman, Henderson and Roberts.
Still able to sign Crabbe for $14M and DH for $20M. Assuming signing Parsons $22M.

That's 8M eachKaman, Henderson, and Roberts would be renounced to make room for Parsons.
Leonard and Harkess gets you ~$8M of the $24M we need to get Howard.
To get $16M more, we have to dump salaries:
Vonleh $2.7M
Davis $6.7M
(minus those two, we're at $17M, still need $7M more)
Aminu $7.6M
We're there.
This leaves us with Layman, Crabbe, Connaughton, Alexander, Montero, Plums
That's 8M each
EXACTLY! Pitch to them (which IS ACTUALLY the truth) ^. IF they actually want to win & prolong their careers/not have miserable seasons/cut down on injuries, aches & pains... both of u take less $ so that we can put u together AND so that we can surround you w/ good players; also say to them: "you've both played for teams where you've not really liked some of your teammates, how much is it worth to you to play w/ those that you ACTUALLY respect & like?"
^ my sea change, we're @ a pt. now that we gotta make some noise & this seems to b 1 of the last ways to do it; IF this doesn't work... on to plan c BUT for now...![]()

IF we could get Howard and Parsons to agree to come for $20M each, we would (barely) have enough room to do so and still keep our RFA's by renouncing the UFA's, dealing Aminu/Davis/Connaughton, and cutting Montero/Alexander. Depending on where the actual salary cap figure comes in.Really? Huh - I figured cap holds were in the $2-3M area. And if I recollect Aminu/Davis are both around $7-8M. I didn't realize cap holds were that high.
Still, I would rather dump Aminu/Davis and keep our RFAs. Crabbe, Harkless, and even Meyers all still have serious potential for improvement, while Aminu and Davis are what they are.
If we dump Aminu/Davis in order to land Parsons/Howard while retaining the RFAs that's a HUGE improvement over last season. It's essentially as if we traded Aminu for Parsons and Davis for Howard.
On the contrary--all the reports I've read/heard regarding Howard included Portland as one of the places in which he IS interested.Didn't Howard say he was uninterested in coming here? I know Parsons and him are close, but I'm not so sure that would be that much of a difference would it.
So, you're bringing Howard in for $10M? Because that's all the cap space that's left after signing Parsons to a max if you keep Harkless, Crabbe, Aminu, and Davis.Dame/CJ/Connaughton
CJ/Crabbe/Montero
Parsons/Harkless
Aminu/Davis/Harkless
Howard/Plums/Davis
Thats solid and Vonleh isnt in there yet.
Release Henderson, Alexander/Kaman/Roberts

I mentioned this in another thread, and I don't have a clear idea of how it would work, but isn't it true that we wouldn't necessarily have to clear cap space to make this work? There's still the possibility of doing a sign-and-trade involving the Rockets, maybe even including a third team.
Explain how you think a S&T would work.
If we were to trade for a 20+ million dollar salary, either the end result of the trade would have to still leave us under the salary cap, or we'd have to send out outgoing salaries that were within $5M of the incoming salary. So there isn't really a way to work a sign/trade for Howard that doesn't still involve clearing a ton of salary for him.I mentioned this in another thread, and I don't have a clear idea of how it would work, but isn't it true that we wouldn't necessarily have to clear cap space to make this work? Haha!Dude, what do you do with all the time you are saving by typing like that!?

Explain how you think a S&T would work.
EDIT: To clarify my understanding is:
We'd have to be over the cap by ~$24M with $24M in player salaries to trade to match the incoming. If we're under the cap and use cap space, we're in the same position we're in now, we just sign him.

The key is for them to take no more than $38M combined. That means we'd only need to clear $15M. That means we could keep Crabbe, Harkless, and Plumlee/Vonleh while only trading away Davis, Plumlee/Vonleh, and renouncing Meyers.Gotta hope Parsons takes less than $22M and Howard takes less than $16M to play for us.
Let's say that Houston liked Meyers or Harkless enough to take them on starting at around $16M or so and Dwight would agree to a S & T starting at around $25, seems like the Blazers could clear enough to absorb the difference. Probably reasons why that doesn't work, but as far as I can see, as long as one of those guys was amenable to the idea and didn't sign any other offer sheets, it seems plausible.
