We still have power! We got really lucky with that eastward jog it took a couple hours before landfall. Being on the west side of the storm saved us.I'm impressed you have internet. How are things going at your home?

Glad you are going to be fine. Seriously. We are going to be fine. I was worried when this thing was heading towards us, but we were soooo lucky.
This storm was pure insanity. Before it even made landfall, it was spawning tornadoes in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and even Virginia. That was while the hurricane's core was still in the gulf. We just got back from a journey to Monticello, FL to check on a friend's house out in the woods. They had a huge tree fall inches from their tiny little house. Lots of luck here for the people close to me.God damn this is super intense. Hoping you and yours are all good.
Have a friend who is staying on the Georgia coast right now and she was updating me on hearing tornado sirens and got lots of wind and rain from this, and this is hundreds of miles from you.
Wild shit.

The day before when it was still a Category 1 storm. We have 4 dogs and 5 cats so evacuation is difficult. I think I am going to get us prepared for that eventuality though for future storms, if they have the possibility for rapid intensification, as Helene did. Going to need to pick up more portable crates/kennels/carriers as we currently do not have enough for all. When was the decision made to hunker down?
Mrs PokerDog's sister lives in Asheville. The sister is in Italy with her husband on vacation but their son, DIL, and newborn live in Black Mountain.
We lucked the hell out. It went just east of us last minute and we just got hit by the western storm bands. 20 miles to the west and we probably wouldn't have a home. It's back to normal for us here. Was hoping to get some more flex time off of work at least. Haha@theprunetang please keep us updated FAMS! Stay safe!

What the hell is FEMA doing exactly? We know they are spending billions to house illegal immigrants, but now that they are needed by Americans..
