This one is going to hit Florida, Cantore is riled up. Be safe Michael.

As of my last check the weather service was on the if this happens then that will happen, however that happens then this will happen yada, yada. Wee are watching, and people here are already in a state of panic buying up every thing they can buy. Our area is not considered a "flood zone" however were a 'caine to move in from the west and hit St Pete that would not matter. Already told the squeeze that she, I, and Beagle will get in the car and depart the area. I don't own a bunch of stuff, have insurance on what I think is valuable.

Unbelievable on the heels of Harvey. Everyone in its path stay safe.

...just talked with Mom, who is not far from you, and she was planning to come see us and her new great grandson anyway...I told her not to wait till every other Floridian was on the interstates heading north...it's a 5 1/2 hour drive for her to get here but she's made it before. (she makes 2-3 rest stops)

...and I told her if on Friday it was still forecast to hit Florida, get in the car and come on...we're well inland so moderate winds and a lot of rain is all we'll get out of it.

...and yeah, Jim fucking Cantore has already got a hard on over this storm.

Tell Mom to be safe and as far as Cantore is concerned I have no words.

Made a run to pick up AC filters and the people are getting into panic mode buying up everything they can. The squeeze wants to buy stuff so we can "ride out" the storm. Told her the only thing we are riding out is my car headed north on back roads avoiding 75 north like the plague. Damned if I'm going to squat in a house for hours listening to the rhythm of the falling rain and waiting for tornados or flash floods. Another problem I've found with 'caines is that everybody becomes an expert on them and you will get advice. My theory is I am not an expert, I will watch the storm tracks and take appropriate action if anticipated by the weather geeks and National Hurricane Service.

My Brother lives in Venice and my Father in Port Charlotte, I wonder if they are going to get hit with this Hurricane.

Evacuations have now been issued in the Miami Dade area and the Keys. Went out today for gas which took a while, no water to be had but I already had some on hand. We'll see what it looks like on Friday then if we have to lock up and hit the raod.

I'm sure you know. Take no chances. Florida always seems better equipped for this stuff but nobody should end up like those poor souls in Houston who didn't leave.

...I still contend that the governor and the mayor screwed up by not trying to evacuate the citizens in lower lying areas...they knew in advance how much rain they were forecast to get well before the storm made landfall and engineers could fairly easily have predicted what areas were gonna get flooded first.

I have to check during commercials. Right now I just know it's not a great situation.

I' not a huge fan of Governor Scott but in light of the current storm situation and those past he has stepped up, shown direction and leadership and Florida is prepared. There are still uncertainties but the "what ifs" are being handles. There are people evacuating on their own right at present and the video was not pretty. Heis speaking now so I'm going tocheck out what new info is up.

Thanks.

Miami/Dade, Collier County (Naples) and Key West have had on going evacuations. As for the rest of Florida they will announce as the situation arises. Just saw the Manatee County Presentation by local officials. Reported that the storm may trend East but be prepared anyway. The Governor is making hi presentations at different areas depending on information received from State and federal Officials. Give him high marks for his display of taking charge.

Crap. Just saw video of St. Maartens where I have a timeshare at Simpson Bay on the Dutch side. The island was leveled, the airport destroyed, the obligatory flooding everywhere and all power on the whole island knocked out. GDI.

So sorry Mel, I'm watching pictures of it now.

Already the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the atlantic

and if this hits Key areas, cities that can't be prepared enough, even veers into the Gulf, or the Panhandle, up and in; this with Harvey will make Katrina/Rita look like a school girls temper tantrum, ...

history's being made???

It's a possibility.

...if you've ever been to the keys, you know how low they are, and you know that the current storm surge forecasts will completely cover many of them.

Gov Scott is giving a briefing as this is being typed. Path is still showing a hit on South Fla and going up the East Coast. Saw video this am of people in Miami lining up to buy gas and Home Depot supplies. . All areas of the state are still making preparations to be ready. No evacuation notices for Manatee & Pinellas at this time.

Miamia Dade, Evacuation mandatory, Collier & Monroe Counties evacuation voluntary, Manatee County now placed on alert.

As predicted the storm has shifted and will most likely travel up the eastern seaboard of Florida. Yhe size of the storm puts the West Coast of Florida on the outer fringes which most likely means we'll see Tropical Storm Conditions. Right now Key West is getting the most stern evacuation attention. Per the Governor, 31,000 have gotten out and a hot line is provided for those having trouble doing so. Also heard that Georgia, and the Carolinas are initiating preparations.

...most of the hotels along I-75 all the way to Atlanta are already full...I'm about 45 miles south of Macon and I just crossed I-75 and as I looked northward the Northbound lane was already bumper to bumper.
