What the hell, I'm bored (a little drunk) and tis the season for trade ideas.

Assuming the Sixers were really desperate to get rid of their overpaid 7 footer, would you trade Jerryd, Steve, Webster and filler (Patty, Dante, Pendergraph and maybe the draft rights to Freeland if needed) for Sam Dalembert and Jrue Holiday? I'll confess taking on Dalembert doesn't excite me all that much mostly because he maks an ass load of money at 12 million per year for this year and next, but he'd be a capable fill in at the post this season and a possibly useful 25-30 minutes/night player next year (and beyond?).

But what I'd really like to do is get a hold of Jrue Holiday (a guy I would have loved to see the Blazers get a hold of in last year's draft) as the proverbial "point guard of the future" for this team. He's long, he's very young, he's got true point guard instincts and he's got enormous defensive potential plus he can play a little off the ball and shoots decently from long range (albeit based on a super small sample). Admittedly, he probably needs a couple years of seasoning before he'd be fully ready for prime time, but I think this kid is going to be pretty damn special.

You've expressed great enthusiasm over Holiday before, but what excites you so much about him that Bayless doesn't have, other than height? It's not like Holiday is ripping the league apart...he's getting more substantial minutes than Bayless did last year, but is posting a similarly lackluster PER (to Bayless' rookie PER). He has plenty of tools, but so does Bayless...and Bayless was actually very good in college, while Holiday was somewhat disappointing. Bayless has also shown signs of putting it together this season...his PER is currently a bit over 15, which is quite nice for a second-year player as young as Bayless.

I'd rather have Bayless, really. Bayless also has a ton of potential, offensively and defensively, but has proven more at the NBA level.

Meh, I cannot really comment on Jrue and his game and whether he is considered more of a traditional PG or not, but I would rather keep Bayless because he has shown a lot of improvement in such little time. He is valuable in that he can get to the free throw line which only Miller and Roy can do out of the other Blazers. If I were to trade Bayless (which I would not like to) I would rather do it for an impact player like a Bosh or an Iggy (would rather try and trade Rudy first).

I just like Jrue's 'floor sense' for lack of a better word. I realize his numbers are not mind blowing, and he was played at the 2 guard spot at UCLA (not his natural position) which definitely didn't help him any. Frankly it's just intuition.

Let me be perfectly clear though, I think Bayless is a helluva talent too, I'm just not sure that his particular skills compliment Roy and the rest of the team the way they need him too, or at least compliment the rest of the team in a way that will allow him to fully exploit his gifts.

I think I'd rather keep Bayless as well, but I also haven't seen much of Holliday. He played well against us in Philly, if I remember correctly, but I just see Bayless with more potential and his unreal work ethic is a known quantity, not sure about Jrue. Dalembert interests me, however, becuase we need a center (duh), he's a pretty good one, and is somewhat of ironman as far as big men go. I think he's played in like 200 something consecutive games, which to me is extremely valuable considering the curious case of Gregory Oden.

I think the one thing that doesn't compliment Roy is his lack of jump shot (which I believe will improve), otherwise, it isn't such a bad idea having another guy who can pentrate to the rim when Roy is tired, in foul trouble, or hobbling, but still playing the game (could be used as a decoy). If he can knock down the jumpshot consistently, I believe he already has the tools to play next to Roy. My opinion, though.
